7/17/2011parent One thing the Sun rairie school board has done well is their focus on spending. The new SP High School is a cathedral to their tax and spend philosophy embraced by so many on the school board. As a community, since we cannot actually track our teacher performance, we are satisfied knowing in our hearts that as long as our schools are state of the art our children must be getting the education and guidance they deserve. After all, its all about the children. So...if you're looking for facilities in your school that are over the top, Sun Prairie is the school for you.
3/29/2011studentGreat faculty members, many who have taught at SPHS for years and hold advanced degrees, make SPHS a great school for learning. With a new principal in place, administration has become much more involved over the past 2 years. Sun Prairie has a wide variety of course offerings, including the most AP classes in Dane County. A beautiful new facility lends itself well towards a phenomenal learning environment and many students take advantage of ample opportunities to get involved. At the same time, activities and any sport other than varsity football do not receive any support from the Athletic Director or administration in general. Many quality teachers are retiring earlier due to the possibility of benefit cuts, so the future of some AP classes and other honors courses is unknown. Scheduling conflicts arise from time to time, as in most schools. Recently, administration has had to deal with a large number of online harassment issues and is having trouble curtailing some of them. Overall, SPHS is a high-quality public high school. There are some minor flaws here and there, but altogether students receive an excellent education at SPHS.
11/3/2009parentAwesome teachers and staff at this school. The students feel connected and as if they're part of something bigger. Much needed remodling projects have been done. Next year a whole new school opens; students, teachers, staff and parents are all excited for this new building.
10/29/2009studentIt has a bunch of different options for classes and nice teachers and guidance counselors. We have the funnest pep rallys and sports events because we're probably the most pyched about that kind of stuff. It's awesome because they don't make school feel like prison, instead it feels like a place where you can have fun with your friends and learn new things at the same time. It's great.
2/4/2007parentSun Prairie High School is an over crowded, out of control school that puts our children's safety at risk.
9/27/2006studentI think that the sunprairie high school is a very good school. They have a lot of really good clubs that the students are able to join and they try to make sure that everyone has a comfortable environment there.
3/20/2006parentThis school is not the finest source of education available and it is growing at a rapid pace. The curriculum remains unchanged for the past 40 years, and computer courses are very limited.
2/28/2006parentBoth my girls had really good experiences at SPHS and lots of opportunities. Amie went to Florida with her biology class and got to dissect a shark and see snakes and alligators in the wild. Katie was part of the Academic Decathlon Team (the Nerd Herd) and got to travel around Wisconsin and compete against other brainiacs. Both girls had good times as cheerleaders - Katie's squad won 3 national championships. Katie graduated from SPHS with college level credits in calculus and chemistry. Her first semester at UW-Oshkosh she started with 2nd semester calculus and said it was all stuff that she had already had at SPHS. Both girls sang in the choir all 4 years. Katie also played in the band. Many districts are cutting the arts, but SPHS still offers the full range of educational opportunities - arts and sciences.
