| 11/28/2011 | other | I would not recommend HH at all. We are now in the DC Everest school district and I regret the fact that my child had spent 2 years at HH. School work was NEVER sent home because teacher's knew many parents would not assist their child. My philosophy is that school and educaiton does not end at the edge of the school yard; it continues at home. Fortunately, my child is bright and resilient and has had few obstacles to overcome at the new school. We get spelling lists weekly, reading assignments, and math assignments a couple times a week. My child received more take home assignments in the first month of school in DCE than in the 2 years at HH. If you want to stay in Wausau Schools - I agree that John Marshall may be an option but with school choice, you're not guaranteed placement from year to year. Good luck - and stay away from HH unless you're okay with below standard test results/scores, low parent involvement, etc. |
| 4/26/2011 | parent | I visited several of the schools in Wausau prior to relocation. I chose this school over the others and love it. The principal is outstanding and you'll find a very caring group of teachers ready to meet all challenges. The allied staff is second to none. There are some great parents who help out at the school. This is a wonderfully multi-cultural school where my children have learned to respect and embrace the differences that are the American mosaic. The challenges at this school are no different than any of the others since Wausau has the third highest unemployment in the state. Because of open enrollment policy in Wisconsin, one may place their child in any school of their choosing if there is room. That a former superintendent opted for another school is a personal, family choice that only reflects personal biases. |
| 12/27/2010 | parent | If you have a choice, choose another school. John Marshall would be the obvious (and closest) alternative. This school struggles with a transitory population. The need to focus on children struggling with basic needs takes time away from providing education. The former superintendent opted for John Marshall over HH for his kids. |
| 4/3/2009 | parent | Top notch elementary school.Private location. Great teachers. Small class sizes. |
| 9/6/2008 | parent | I am a long time parent of Hawthorn students! It is a great school, very caring teachers and a family-like atmosphere. My children have received an excellent education. |
