Lake in the Hills, IL is a small town located in northern Illinois with a population of approximately 28,000. The town is governed by an elected Board of Trustees and Village President who are responsible for making decisions that affect the residents. The Board of Trustees consists of six members who are voted in by the community every two years. The Village President is elected by the public to serve as the head of local government. Local elections generally take place during April or November and have candidates from both major parties running for seats on the Village Board and for Village President. Residents can participate in politics and get involved with local government through attending meetings, voicing opinions, and voting. All residents 18 years or older are encouraged to vote in order to ensure their voice is heard within their community.
