Chillicothe, Ohio is a small city located in Ross County that has a long and rich history. In recent years, local politics have been the focus of much debate and discussion. Currently the government of Chillicothe is led by Mayor Luke Feeney and an 8-member City Council who are chosen from eight wards throughout the city. Each member of City Council serves for a 4 year term, with elections taking place every two years. The Mayor is also elected to serve a 4 year period. The current government has placed an emphasis on improving infrastructure, economic development, quality living environments, and public safety initiatives. This has included investment in public works projects such as road repairs and bike trails, business tax breaks for incenting new businesses into the community, promoting green energy initiatives, and expanding public safety services like police patrols and fire protection programs. There are several political parties active in Chillicothe including Democrats, Republicans, Greens and Libertarians among others. Every two years these parties hold numerous events to encourage citizens to become more informed about their choices ahead of elections day so they can make informed decisions when casting their ballots.
