Bluefield, West Virginia is a small town with a population of approximately 5,000 people. It is politically conservative and has voted Republican in all presidential elections since 2000. The local government consists of the mayor and city council, both of whom are elected to four-year terms. The current mayor is David Wilkes, who has served since 2016. He was re-elected in 2020. The city council is comprised of nine members, three from each ward in the city. All nine members were elected in 2018 for four-year terms. Their main focus is on providing essential services to the community such as public safety, infrastructure maintenance, and economic development within Bluefield and its surrounding areas.
