Land of the Rich Snobs - 6/20/2011
Unfriendly, overpriced....who could ever afford to live here other than the ever-growing number of creepy uber-wealthy snobs? The crazy funnny part is that California's major artery hwy 101 runs around and through it, so that no matter where you are, you can hear the roar of the cars....ahhh, the sweet smell of exhaust. And if that isn't bad enough,
while most of these places (you name it - hotels, cafes, restaurants, grocery stores (Big John's means Big Money), are so overpriced as to be funny, to live there is health risky - besides the pollution from nearby 101, there's the Sonoma Co. airport right on the edge of town, and the constant spraying of pesticides on the thousands of acres of vinyards. Most of the residents are incredibly self centered, arrogant, unfriendly. And whatever you do, don't get in their way -- EVER! They will literally elbow you off the sidewalk, take your parking space, and could care less about anyone other than themselves. I've never understood Read More

Painfully Expensive for Locals - 5/4/2011
It's beautiful here. But this particular city is geared toward the wealthy and the tourists. It didn't used to be... but at a certain point 20 years ago, the city made a decision to go after tourist dollars, and it has hurt locals in terms of cost of living. It makes me sad because I've lived in and around Healdsburg all my life. But when my last kid goes off the college, I'll be leaving the area. I will miss the natural beauty, but not the price tag.

If you've got money and you're willing to pay over 150% of the average American's cost of living, you'll love Read More

Please come & feel our "wine country" love... - 10/17/2010
I have lived in Healdsburg, CA for 24 years & watched a lovely country town turn into a snob magnet like you have never seen. It is heartbreaking. Our dining choices consist of $100-$300 tabs for 2 or greasy tacos....it is absolutely ridiculous. Our darling downtown Plaza is now full of drunk tourists walking in circles, looking at our over-priced menus & shops, wondering what they are doing here. Forget trying to own a home here...$500K for a shack "near the lovely downtown plaza" Whatever...we are so over Read More

People - 9/27/2008
Healdsburg was once a quiet agricultural land with fruit ochards and moderate wine growing area's .
Many people over the years have compared Healdsburg and Dry Creek Valley to parts of Germany and Italy
with beautiful Lake Sonoma as a great boating; recreation location . The valley and moutains inspire artists in all seasons ! Russian River and the Redwoods are also a great area for beauty and family recreation.
However, The last twenty years it has become a location for the wealthy who want their own wine labels and winerys at the expense of the native plants, Douglas Fir , California Live Oaks ; California Valley Oaks .
The Valley is still being striped of the above for grape vines; hill top homes that scar with out of balance architecture.

The public schools have declined to a C- average due to poor funding from the state ; with many non-speaking english students the limited amount of teachers must adjust to the needs of non speaking students Read More
