Oceanside Love - 7/22/2019
I've lived in here since 1988, left in 1995 and came back in 2005. I will always love Oceanside. You have to come check it out. It has changed so drastically and there are now a lot of tourist that come and go, but it's still a really nice place to visit and if you can afford living there, I say go buy a nice house for you and your family. No matter where I go, Oceanside will always be my home. Read More

25 Years Lived In Oceanside - 1/20/2018
Moved to O'Side Nov 1988 (Lived there from 78 thru 79 prior to moving back in 88). 78-1979 was a Fun, Good, Relaxing Time to Live in O'Side- Low Crime Rate, Low Population and Low Cost of Housing. During the 70's & most of the 80's, there was an expansive amount of "open land" (land never built on). We had often wondered why people from the East Coast had not moved out of the lousy weather and to the land of "milk and honey" (California Dreamin). Fast Forward to the Turn of the next century:
O'Side has GROWN way too Big for most. Lets start with the Pros: Great Weather, Good Schools (including public- our 3 boys went to: Palmquist, Lincoln and El Camino High. They never had a problem and their grades were always very good. Shopping, a lot of choices. .

CONS: Housing Expensive (realative), Crime Rate is on the Rise, Overpopulated, Traffic is becoming terrible, People are Rude and in a Hurry. I believe the quality of life has suffered with the Over Read More

The most affordable beach city in So Cal for now - 7/2/2017
You'd be hard pressed to find a city with more recreational opportunities and as culturally rich as Oceanside, and increasing numbers of affluent young families are choosing Oceanside over other San Diego County cities for the great values still available here. Oceanside is San Diego's northernmost beach city and is the only San Diego County city other than San Diego itself that can boast having one of the original 24 California Missions (with its own indigenous community and Franciscan theological seminary), a yacht harbor and miles of beaches that have long attracted international surfing competitions. However what makes Oceanside UNIQUE is its Transit Center that connects the San Diego light rail system to the Los Angeles/Orange County/Inland Empire rail system, giving environmentally conscious tourists and Oceanside residents the most Southern California transit options of any San Diego County city; this fact, along with Oceanside's ongoing Coast Highway Renaissance and the Read More

Don't be scared off by the negative reviews. - 1/15/2016
I have been holding off for a bit until I had spent more time living in Oceanside to comment, but its been almost a year since I bought my house and before that I had lived in North County for going on two years, so I feel I can give an informed review. First off, I understand that Oceanside has had a sketchy past, but that doesn’t seem to be as much an issue as of this writing. The place must have cleaned up a lot, because I do not see the Oceanside that a lot of the older reviews depict. Yes, its a city of close to 170k residents, nestled between two large metro areas with one of the largest military bases in the US — there are going to be rough spots. My point is, I really don’t see as many problems as this place is credited for, and I am really surprised that I don’t see more. I’ll go through my list of pros and cons for Oceanside, and some of the surrounding areas:

Pros:
- The climate:
Everyone knows San Diego’s famous weather. What they may not Read More

DO NOT MOVE HERE!!!!!! First of all the cost of living here is ridiculous a half decent two bedroom apt here is about 1400 a month the transportation here sucks. The transit district just keeps cutting spending so theres less stops less frequent departure times and the people weirdos they are psychotic and take meds or they try to rip marines off because its a military town. And they're beaches are filthy. Im from florida and people here just dont care about they're nature smokin cigarettes right by the sand in front of people. And the other type of people include losers, surfers and crap load of meth addicts I just think oceanside is the evil twin of glitzy Carlsbad. All in all im gettin out of here and relocating to Charlotte NC one of theis best cities in the country right now check that out before u consider comin here. And the only good thingisland the weather just nothing but sunshine all the time no Read More

1 Year in O'side...like all places, plusses and mi - 7/21/2012
Background: I grew up/lived for over 30 years in the burbs 30 miles east of L.A.; lived the past 26 years in the burbs of SF East Bay. Relocated to O’side a year ago due to aging family member.

O’side and SD County is a significant change in many many respects compared to the more populous SF Bay area and Los Angeles. I’m a college educated professional worker and when I lived in NorCal I resided in a pretty upscale area – O’side and actually most all of SD County is different scene. North County in particular is the land of ‘flip-flops’ and shorts, not a lot of ‘professional’ types here, but for good reason: with the large Pendleton Marine base in town and a good proportion of Hispanic’s this is really ‘working class’ type of town. As you head South things change a bit..more corporate biz near San Diego.

Plusses:
Climate: if you like sunshine and MILD weather, well, this is the place. But you already know that. If you miss the change of seasons Read More
