Love the Sierra Nevada Mountains - 12/13/2018
1 hr from Sacramento; 1 hour from Lake Tahoe on Hwy 50. Close to skiing, fishing, boating, camping, hiking, biking - if you love outdoor activities that make you sweat, this is the place for you. B r e a t h e fresh pine-scented air. Not too cold in the winter; and not too hot in the summer. Home buyer's hint: Pick a location on a south facing slope. You can still buy a house for under $300K. Just enough snow to make it interesting; but not a burden. ~ 80% of the time you will enjoy a white Christmas. CVS, a 24hr Safeway, choice of restaurants, PIZZA - Good schools. Good hospital in Placerville - 30 minutes. NO TRAFFIC. What is not to like?  Read More

Low air quality ranking? - 8/27/2012
Sperling's Pollock Pines air quality ranking of "1.2" (very poor) surprises me for a place this far into the mountains. Is that an Read More

Plenty of Outdoor Recreation - 4/11/2011
The review places the elevation too low. At the center of town (Safeway Supermarket) we are at 3,990. I'm slightly higher at just over 4,000. 30 years ago we used to get at least 1 four foot snowstorm per year. That hasn't happened but this past winter (2010-2011) we had 2 three foot storms, and 3 of at least one foot. Power was out this winter for a total of 4 days due to storm damage. (most spilt into blocks of 6 hours). Since we had an early storm before the leaves fell from the deciduous trees many were broken and some uprooted. Even many evergreens were broken this past winter.
The outdoor recreation is vast with Lake Tahoe just 45 minutes away with plenty of fun in between. The Rubicon Trail, famous worldwide as a 4X4 rock climbing wilderness trail is just 20 minutes from town. Sly Park lake and camping is in town just 10 minutes from Safeway. Fishing, camping, hiking, hunting (target shooting), horseback riding, ATV and dirt bike trails run through the US National Read More

Nature's Wonderland - 2/16/2011
Pollock Pines has 4 distinct seasons and is truly the best place to live on earth! I disagree with Edde who says we get 7-9' of snow. While we do get snow in my 20+ year history of living in "Nature's Wonderland" I have never seen more than 4' at one time and that was considered "a 100 year storm". We live amongst beautiful Cedar & Oak trees with lots of lakes and rivers. This is a recreational paradise. We're located half way between South Lake Tahoe and Sacramento at 4000' elevation. I am a local RealtorĀ® and as of 2010 the average home sells for $183,000 and the prices are still on the decline (8% in Read More

Lots of Snow - 4/9/2007
If you like cedar trees and recreation, Pollock Pines is the place. We are set in the beautiful Sierra Nevada right at the 1.2 way point between Sacramento and South Lake Tahoe. Every year we are graced with about 7 to 9 feet of snow accumulated, so pack your snow Read More
