Community of Griffin, IN - 2/19/2008
Griffin, prior to the early 1900's, used to be known as "Price Station,'' and so-named after one of my great grandfathers. My father, Russell, and his dad, Dan, owned the Price Grain Elevator Company. The town's original name, "Price Station," was painted on a board and hung from the old railroad depot on the west side of the street in the center of town. Shell Oil Company bought that old depot, moved it to the end of town and hung it inside their gasoline/eating facility. Grifin was a community of retired farmers and many oil field workers. All that remains of the Griffin School, grades 1-12, is the gym. It is now used for a variety of social events in the community. Griffin School was closed with the graduation of the last class from high school in 1959. It consolidated with Cynthiana, Poseyville and Wadesville to make up the new North Posey Jr./Sr. High School.
