Culture and Recreation - 8/6/2012
I am a native of Tupelo, Mississippi. I have wanted to move away from this town since I was younger. It's really not a bad place to live. It just doesn't offer much as far as places to go and things to do. Don't get me wrong but there are plenty of restaurants here and that is what people here do most. Eat. The really nice places we have to go are considered mainly for a certain class of people. If you aren't fortunate enough to have been born with a silver spoon or from a family of wealth then you unfortunately won't know or be invited or made to feel welcome at certain events in this town. You have to be someone well known and popular with everyone to get the A-1 treatment. I could talk forever on this subject so let me move on. The weather here is terrible. Tornado's year round, very, very, very, and I mean VERY hot and humid weather, almost unbearable. I try to stay out of the sun and under air conditioning during the day. It is torture to live in this much heat and its just about Read More

Tupelo- poem from Reflections of a Mississippi Ma - 12/29/2008
TUPELO
The small town where I am from,
Gets its name from the Tupelo Gum.
No matter where in the world
That I might roam
This is the place that I call home.
Though I've been notheast for my education,
I've stayed fiercely southern in dedication.
In Memphis , I lived for many years,
By my own election,
And even still, there was tht Tupelo connection.
At Elvis' Graceland fans come to mourn,
But it's Tupelo,Mississippi where he was born.
Tupelo is known as an All-American city,
If you've never enjoyed it, that's quite a pity.
It's so warm, so hospitable and so neat,
Everything about it to me is so sweet.
I love the trees, the flowers and birds,
I can't really describe all its beauty in words.
Though many places in my life
Have played a significant part
It's Tupelo, Mississippi, y'all
That still has all my heart.

Tupelo: On the Move - 6/24/2008
If you have never visited Tupelo, MS, I would recommend it as a stop in the deep South. Tupelo is rich in heritage and has become an economic hub for the Midsouth region. As the birthplace and childhood home of Elvis Presley, there are several museums and other unique events happening consistently. Tupelo is a small city of about 40,000 residents, in a metro area of around 150,000. However, with Tupelo being the economic hub of the region, including all of North Mississippi, much of West Alabama and some of Southwest Tennessee, it appears to be much larger than it actually is. An urban renewal project of the downtown area has turned it into a modern picture of vitality, with trendy WiFi restaurants and high tech office facilities. There are many restaurants and shopping venues for this size town. The schools are ranked as some of the top in the nation, with Tupelo High School's athletic program recently being recognized in the top 5 programs in the nation. Housing is Read More
