A getaway from the big city - 2/28/2021
We moved here in October 2020 from Lehigh Acres, Florida. We wanted somewhere with all 4 seasons instead of hot weather 7-8 months out of the year and cooler weather for 5 months. Well it’s been nice so far we have loved the changing of color of leaves in the fall. My kids have a blast jumping in the leaf piles which you are allowed to burn here. I was surprised by this because you couldn’t do that in Florida. You definitely feel like you have more freedom here than in Florida. Maybe it’s because it’s a small quaint and friendly town but there’s quite a few places we don’t have to wear face masks. Which it’s weird that it’s become a faux pas socially in so many places to not wear masks out in public. I miss the days where people who wore masks on their face in stores or businesses were seen as questionable or robbers and told to take their masks off. But that’s a whole different story, back to Mexico. This place has many older homes with character and charm. Coming from a Read More

One of the Most Pleasant Places to Live - 10/3/2014
Unfortunately, some views of Mexico, Missouri are focused on the past and so those people will stay living in the past, as the rest of us move forward. As to the outstanding members of the community, leaving with their morals and values, this can only be untrue; as I know many decent people within this community. Mexico, Missouri is a good place to raise a family, I should know I have one, and is a quiet town; so while there may not be all the goings and comings of a large city, we don't have near the crime ratings of the larger cities. Mexico, does in fact, still have the Soybean Festival, as well as, the Walk Back in Time and if one is creative enough, one can find many things to do in Mexico. Thankfully enough we don't have to live in the past, with the old almighty families that once were; we can create a new more united Mexico, with more tolerance and friendship, to face any rough times that the economy has for us. Overall, the economy has been in a slump and surely more cities, Read More

Quality of Life or Lack There of. - 11/2/2010
Mexico Missouri use to be a very nice little community with activities and many businesses on the square. That was twenty five years ago. Now it is a ghost town of what once was.
The "old guard" (as many in Mexico refer to the long gone prominent citizens) is long gone and with them went the high quality of life that so many citizens enjoyed.
Today we have new commissioners and new business people. The difference is that today, the commissioners and business people only care about lining their personal coffers instead of the betterment of the community.
Gone are the days of the fantastic Soy bean festival with the "Outhouse" races" and the old Fiddler contests.
Gone is the Audrain county fair with the many chances for kids to compete for blue ribbons. Gone are the many stores on the square , where you could shop locally and knew who you were doing business with. Gone are the "old Guard" who worked relentlessly to bring a great hospital to this tiny community Read More
