Mild winters without scorching hot summers makes this an ideal location within a short distance to Lake Tahoe, hiking trails and even cattle ranches makes the Carson Valley a desirable place to live with excellent supermarkets, good medical facilities , antique shops and low to moderate traffic is the norm. The following sums this place up:

- Junk cars, garbage and dead lawns visible in almost all areas.
- Low income workers.
- Noisy and disrespectful neighbors.
- Hispanic population increasing rapidly.
- No decent parks or recreation for kids whatsoever.
- Dirty and poorly maintained roads.
- Air filled with wildfire smoke most of the summer season from wildfires.
- Poor water quality.
- Expensive inadequate housing.
- High costs associated with local utilities.
- Terrible school system (better than Carson, but not by much).
- Poor quality medical system.
- Horrible local news and newspaper.
