Deposit, NY is a small village in the states of New York and Pennsylvania. It is known for its picturesque scenery, outdoor recreation activities, and rich local history. First of all, the flood was in July 2006, not 07 as reported in the earlier writer's post. Secondly, while many homes were affected, they were homes in lower areas (flood zones) where the water spilled over from the river. You would need to purchase flood insurance on one of those homes, regardless. Many, many homes were not affected at all. While my downtown store took on several feet of water, my home, and all the homes in my area were not affected.
Deposit has an interesting mix of people. The locals are pretty laid back, but there are many people from the city, some who are fairly famous from TV and other notoriety, who visit during the summer months as Deposit is well known for it's fishing and game. Others enjoy boating or jet skiing on the half dozen beautiful lakes in the area. Before purchasing any home in this area be sure to check for damages from 2007's flood. This city among others in the area was hit pretty hard and many of the homes have damage that may not reach the eye.
