Cost of Living in Lockhart - 9/14/2014
Lockhart's cost of living is better than Austin in several ways. While Austin is only a short 30 minute drive and the traffic there is unbearable, Lockhart has typical traffic for a small town where people are going through it to get to the coast or on up North. Gas prices are usually lower here than in Austin or the surrounding communities. Utilities are about the same as everyone else unless you are fortunate to be part of a co-op like Bluebonnet Electric which lowers your costs even more. Groceries are comparable to Austin and surrounding communities. Housing is less expensive and you tend to get more for your money here. Taxes are lower than Austin as well. a nice little town, we moved here from calif and we love it. my husband works in austin its a very easy commute on the toll way. its a pretty historic town with lots of big beautiful old houses, we can rid out bikes everywhere and the people are very friendly. you can do your banking, register your car and pay your home owners insurance in 20 minutes if you dont get to talking to someone. the library is absolutely beautiful and there are quite a few familys who have moved in from other places, a nice mix of people but still a quite old fashioned Read More
