Depressing and Boring Schertz! - 8/15/2015
I have only lived in Schertz Two years but im beyond ready to leave this area as soon as my kid graduates. Ill just start by saying that there are NO jobs in the Schertz area and the pay scale in the whole San Antonio area no matter what profession you are in is the lowest I have ever seen anywhere. As for the so-called cheap cost of living, its not much different than most bedroom communities around Texas but the lack of pay here makes it worse than living somewhere that cost a little more to live. Next I don't see how people claim this place has a House or Building boom going on. Outside of a few small retail stores I have not seen anything built here that amounts to anything since ive moved here. Something else that sucks about this place is its beyond Boring! By Sundown every Evening this Town Rolls up the sidewalks. But there is no kind of Entertainment in this area anyway so I guess id doesn't matter unless you consider a Movie Theatre something special which pretty much every Read More

Avoid Schertz - 4/24/2014
Agree with you completely Tammy. Ready to move out. But we've been here 14 years, including a 2 year overseas stay. The previous mayor,(Baldwin) turned was a charming semi rural community into a strip mall. This town is almost completely locked out to the outside, increased population and concrete make it a nightmare for residents. Pollution and crime are climbing, as in any rapidly increasing populated area. I35 has been under reconstruction for over a year. The current Council is hell bent on attracting more businesses, a lot of them using 18 wheelers. Wherever there is a blade of grass, they intend on covering it with concrete and put a fast food joint, car wash or other business. In 5 years, it will be impossible to get in or out of this nightmarish place. Property taxes are exorbitant and a lot of taxpayer money is wasted on a weekly basis. Our house is paid for, I am semi-retired and try to get out as little as possible. How elected officials can manage to destroy a community in Read More

Not so great - 3/5/2011
We moved here from Nashville 15 years ago. Some of the things I like are the mild winters, diversity (but that is changing, good prices on housing, no taxes on food, lots of places to shop & Spurs Basketball. What I don't like, is that now I am minority and since I lost my job after nine years, I am now having problems getting one because I do not speak Spanish! I thought I lived in the USA. The summers are extremely hot, the traffic is horrible. The roads are very slippery when wet and what is up with the frontage roads. You can see where you want to go but have to go miles and turn around to get there. The auto insurance and property taxes are high and don't get me started about low wages. It took me several years of working to make what I was making in Nashville when I moved here. Crime is everywhere with lots of gangs and drugs and the education system sucks. I have lived in other places and Europe and I am ready to get Read More
