Not Mayberry but maybe the next town over - 7/7/2014
I visited my niece last week and my impression of the town was this:
Deer were poking through the bushes of their backyard and walking across the roads in town. I sipped coffee on the front porch and listened to birdsong while Mr. and Mrs. Tom turkey and the little Turkeys made their way down the hill. I also saw bald eagles flying over the forested homestead 15 miles out of town, and caught site of a coyote slinking in a meadow. The town itself closes up about 7 p.m. but the people we met were friendly and made us feel welcome. I met the former mayor during the 4th of July celebration while he was giving out ice cream cones. The country is beautiful. You really have to like snow to live here. There is usually snow on the ground by the end of October, and can last into March or later. It is the good old boy town. If you were not born and raised there you will not be welcomed. Small town Read More

Unemployment is high in Colville (around 15%), as it is in the surrounding counties. Major employers are schools, state and federal govt, numerous sawmills, Walmart, and four manufacturers.Read More

According to City-data, housing prices crested here at approx $180,000 median in 2006/2007, now they are approx $120,000. Would anybody know Where were they at the beginning of the fed lead bubble in 2000?
