Brookfield, WI - 9/5/2011
I love Brookfield for the most part. The Elmbrook school district is amazing and test scores are always above average level. The one downfall of the city is that there isn't public transportation everywhere. The people are nice and a lot of festivals/activities take place on a regular Read More

It's OK for the family but not for the single gal - 1/18/2008
About turn 35, and have lived in Brookfield for 9 years.

Brookfield is broken into two parts, city and village, both are very safe- especially when compared to closer neighborhoods(Waukesha or Wauwatosa/Milwaukee).

We have a growing mall and a host of chain coffe shops/resturants to choose from. We have 2 non chain coffee shops that seem OK. There is no real night life (art/music or dance clubs) in Brookfield but that is what keeps it quiet.

The school system seems fine, my sister just graduated and she's in college. Only small percent don't go to college after graduation which is wonderful since Brookfield was in the 50's a farming area, so the families that have been here the longest only boost a 2 generation college history.
Note: Starting in the 80's people with money who wanted bigger homes moved in and housing prices went up and up. Marshs were filled and homes built.

As with smaller neighborhoods with no action Read More

Brookfield is great for kids and for retirement. - 3/21/2007
Brookfield is family oriented. Good place to live with kids or retire, lots of activities and no crime. I don't ever lock my car. Shopping is pretty good too, there are 2 big malls in the city and lots of street malls with TJ MAxx, Marshalls, outlet kind of stores. Around the area there are several outlet centers, towards Chicago outlets have brandnames like Versace and Gucci. In order to live in Brookfield comfortably a family must have income at least 50-60 thousands a year. There is NO public transportation. Health care is good and unexpensive, schools are really nice. Sport facilities charge as little as 12 USD monthly membership for singles, YMCA family membership - 70. We have plenty of fast food and restaurants. It is quiet here, all entertainment is kid's or elderly oriented, young adults are having fun in Milwaukee which is 15 min drive.
There is not much of renting property here, but one can find a rent in near by places like Waukesha or West Allis.
