What BestPlaces Users Say about Tucson

Tucson, Arizona is a city located in the southern region of the state, known for its vibrant arts and culture scene, beautiful desert landscapes, and warm weather. It is also home to the University of Arizona and has a growing economy. With its unique characteristics, many people have chosen to call Tucson their home. To gain a better understanding of what it's like to live in Tucson, we will summarize and include excerpts from various user reviews on BestPlaces.net.

According to user "Rachel O.", who has lived in Tucson for 6 years, "Living in Tucson is like living in a colorful and diverse community. The people are friendly and welcoming, and there's always something to do, whether it's exploring the downtown area or hiking in the nearby mountains." This sentiment is echoed by user "Sammy G.", who has been a resident for 10 years, stating that "Tucson has a small-town feel with all the amenities of a big city. It's a great place to raise a family with plenty of parks and family-friendly events."

While many enjoy the vibrant atmosphere of Tucson, there are also some challenges that come with living in the desert. As user "Mark T." shares, "The summers can be brutal with temperatures well over 100 degrees, but the rest of the year is pleasant. Just be prepared for monsoon season and dust storms." Similarly, user "Maria D." adds, "The cost of living is also on the rise in Tucson, and it can be challenging to find affordable housing options."

Despite these challenges, many still find Tucson to be a great place to call home. As user "Liz W." describes, "Tucson has a unique charm and character that you won't find in other cities. The food scene is amazing, and there are so many outdoor activities to enjoy. Plus, the sunsets are simply breathtaking." Living in Tucson - 8/20/2014
I've read a lot of bad comments about living here, but I have to disagree with them. I am a Tucson native and love it. Some of the comments I read said you need to carry a gun at your waist, that we are behind the times, we have too much crime and it's hard to make friends here. Tucson is one of the friendliest places. I have lots of friends and think it depends on your attitude about making friends. I have never carried a gun at my waist and I'm 52 years old. I have friends that do, but that is only because they can, not because they feel they need to. As far as crime goes, every city has their fair share of crime. Do your research before you put Tucson down, and not just by reading comments from people who don't like it. Remember most people just post what they are unhappy about instead of what their happy about. If Tucson is such a bad place to live, then why do the winter visitors keep coming back. It's not just for the weather. There are always new people moving here Read More

Cultural Shock/Poverty & Political Apathy - 3/8/2014
Moved here solely cause rent's practically free. A native Silicon Valley CA resident - rent's your 1st born. Tucson was & is cultural shock personified. For me, it was like moving to another country & an impoverished one at that. The healthcare cracks me up. If you like potholes/kamikaze drivers/smoking/legal fireworks & a solid 3 mos of 100+ summers - Tucson will be the promised land! Moving home when my lease's up...  Read More

Hmmm - 2/23/2014
Born and raised in Tucson. Lived here for 40 years or so. Except for the time being in the military. Came back because it was easier to find a job here while staying with family. Looking to retire soon and wanting to move. Summers are too hot the older I get. Tucson is behind the times of other cities. Local government sucks. Businesses come and go. Streets are awful. $ is up in the Phoenix area. If it wasn't for the university, air force base and Raytheon, Tucson would dry up like the old west towns around the area.  Read More

DON'T come here unless you plan to rot! - 1/11/2014
Golf courses, zoo, parks??? Oh yeah just where I want to go in 115 degree weather. I spent 40 yrs rotting in this desert. HORRIBLE schools. We moved to Maryland and my high school honor roll grand daughter discovered she had to cram courses in order to get into a good college. Courses not offered in Tucson public schools. Try calling the cops when you need help, oh yeah, see how they find missing children (useless).
Home invasions, robberies, rape, like living in a third world country unless you have an income over 150K a year, life will be miserable here.
It's the land of minimum wage opportunity. HIGH, HIGH sales tax of really nearer to 10% on everything.

Tucson, the Seventh Circle of Hell - 10/23/2013
Ok, so perhaps that is an overstatement. However, I will say that if you are planning on living in or moving to Tucson make sure you do your research about where you are moving to! The biggest problem with Tucson is that it is utterly sporadic. It is not uncommon to find a drug den comfortably nestled into an upper middle class suburb. I may be slightly biased because I grew up here and have hated every minute, but I strongly urge anyone planning on moving to Tucson to Read More

The Workforce - 9/14/2013
Tucson is delightful for retirees who want a warmer winter! But for year rounders the summer is very hot and the heat lasts for 5 months. The workforce here is very cut throat and unfriendly and that has gotten worse since the housing crunch of 2008. Over time it is possible to make some friends, but difficult to get together because of the large spread out city and lack of freeways. My friends are always stressed out over their jobs. It's become a "border city" which has it's own feeling of unrest. Come here for winter weather, but not necessarily to get ahead financially from the standpoint of a good Read More
