Drivers are very rude with no courtesy what so eve - 1/1/2007
We moved here from CA 2 years ago, we have noticed most drivers are very rude, no one gives you the right of way, you are not able to swith lanes half the time without it being considered "cutting someone off" no matter where I go, I see an incident of road rage due to drivers being so rude and ignorant, they all act like they own the road and it's like some sort of challenge to get there first.. makes no sense, no courtesy what so

Hemingway was right, "it's all true". - 12/30/2006
Having migrated from San Diego via Reston,Va to a Tucson suburb (Marana), I'm still baffled by Tucsons complete lack of leadership and planning from it's municipal government. I'm fortunate to live in the wonderful planned community Dove Mountain. We're 20 miles north of downtown and that's about as close as I care to be to Tucson's crime ridden metro area. Enough has been said here about the abysmal education, transportation, and water problems...but not enough has been mentioned about the 800lb gorilla in the corner. The massive and uncontrolled influx of illegal immegrants from the south has long sense overwhelmed most public services, especially health care, law enforcement, and public education. Before you dismiss me as a bigot you should know that I grew up in a mixed area of San Diego and many of my best friends were latino. I have enormous respect for their work ethic, respect for family, and attitude of "mi casa es su casa". Our government's reprehensable refusal to make a

It's a matter of opinion - 12/18/2006
I lived in Tucson for 8 years (four attending U of A). Once you accept the fact that you are living in a college/retriree town it's not so bad. There are no freeways or parkways that run through town so you can expect to spend at least 45 minutes driving from one end to another. The cost of living is decent considering the fact that I now live in San Diego and pay almost twice as much as I did in Tucson and for much less space. (I was paying $455 for a huge 1bd/1ba with storage and a patio in Tucson and now I pay $850 for a studio in a converted hotel.) There is a lot of crime in Tucson but it's mostly in South Tucson and around the university. I am a single female and lived alone all over Tucson. I never felt unsafe and occasionally slept with my patio door open (I had a cat). It's very easy to make friends there and you will never be without a taco shop. There are a lot of social service and small business jobs available. It's not a big city so you won't find a lot of corporate

I've lived in Tucson for a little over a year, having lived in WI and FL before. I've found that the crime, while it hasn't touched me, is rampant. Since we are 2 hours from the Mexican border that certainly affects things, lots of murders.....
People here are very distrusting of outsiders for the most part. Don't bring your checkbook, bring your credit card!
The public transportation doesn't go all over the city, so if you rely on the bus don't move here! It'll be hard to keep a

Tucson is a magical desert oasis! - 9/19/2006
I adore the city of Tucson. The heat is dry and tolerable and the four mountain ranges that embrace it all around are breathtaking! Not to mention the ONLY home of the grand Saguaro cactus!! it has a smaller city feel with all the conveniences you need. The skyline has room to grow as well as the transit system but I am a true and blue fan of the little

This City sucks - 9/13/2006
I moved to Tucson from the northwest in 2003, and I think it is the worst mistake ever. Tucson is violent, run down, and poor. You drive down the road, and there is decay everywhere. I would never have suspected that Tucson is like this. Downtown is scary even during the day. But at night, I won't go near downtown. The south side is very run down and dangerous with lots and lots of gangs. I can't understand why anyone would want to move here. Phoenix is ten times better. Sure the weather is nice, but you can find the same weather somewhere else, that is better. If anyone has any questions, feel free to contact me at

Gorgeous nature, rough edges - 9/8/2006
Tucson is physically magnificent. The desert gets just enough water to create fascinating plants like saguaro and palo verde, with beautiful blooms in the spring. Sharply rising mountains all around. The most magnificent sunsets you will see anywhere and I've lived all over the USA. Fascinating plant and animal life...watch out for those javelinas!
My trouble with the place is the city itself which I do not recommend as much. There's a lot of severe poverty and people living on the edge, which makes the city less safe and also very sad at times. There a good aspects too, but the coarse and desperate side was very hard for me to ignore. If you are considering moving here and crime is a concern to you, please don't just go by the statistics spend some time here to see if you are comfortable.
Some good things though - the Tucson Botanical Gardens for plants and the Sonoran Desert Museum for plants and animals. The Flandrau planetarium is wonderful and

Highest larceny rate in the country... - 9/6/2006
Unless you're hiding in a "planned" gated community, you can't ignore the fact that Tucson is full of petty thieves, illegal aliens and drug runners. My uncle had his house broken into twice and lost his antique gun collection. I grew up there in the 70s but all the overbuilding and crime makes this a place to visit, not live. It's really sad, too, because I adore the Sonoran desert, or what's left of

GREAT PLACE TO LIVE!!! - 8/21/2006
My wife and I moved to Vail (near Tucson) almost two years ago from Portland, OR and absolutely love it here! The scenery is absoultely beautiful with four high mountain ranges surrounding the landscape.
We have almost 300 days of beautiful sunshine each year and although summers are hot, in July and August we have terrific monsoon thunderstorms almost daily in the late afternoons and evenings, which replenish the area with moisture. Late summer looks more like spring here with flowers, plants and grass growing everywhere. Winters are extremely mild (compared to Portland!)so you can go on family weekend outings whenever you wish!
The people are very friendly and warm here and since most of the Vail residents are transplants from somewhere else, everyone is accepted with open arms. We felt right at home as soon as we arrived! We do have tremendous housing growth going on in Vail, but our home values are also increasing rapidly.
The economy is

Re to the Re: AZ Sucks - 8/19/2006
Hey- I am from MN and have no plans on going back. I've been here 17 years and am an important part of this community. I adopted 2 abandoned native Tucson kids. I work in Social Services. Saying you wish everyone would move back is not a good thing to say! I'm sure at some point your ancestors moved here from somewhere else. If they would've taken your advice, you wouldn't of been born in Tucson. I agree that if someone doesn't like it here they can move. It's a free country and they aren't being held by gunpoint. Hope not
