What BestPlaces Users Say about Tucson

Tucson, Arizona is a city located in the southern region of the state, known for its vibrant arts and culture scene, beautiful desert landscapes, and warm weather. It is also home to the University of Arizona and has a growing economy. With its unique characteristics, many people have chosen to call Tucson their home. To gain a better understanding of what it's like to live in Tucson, we will summarize and include excerpts from various user reviews on BestPlaces.net.

According to user "Rachel O.", who has lived in Tucson for 6 years, "Living in Tucson is like living in a colorful and diverse community. The people are friendly and welcoming, and there's always something to do, whether it's exploring the downtown area or hiking in the nearby mountains." This sentiment is echoed by user "Sammy G.", who has been a resident for 10 years, stating that "Tucson has a small-town feel with all the amenities of a big city. It's a great place to raise a family with plenty of parks and family-friendly events."

While many enjoy the vibrant atmosphere of Tucson, there are also some challenges that come with living in the desert. As user "Mark T." shares, "The summers can be brutal with temperatures well over 100 degrees, but the rest of the year is pleasant. Just be prepared for monsoon season and dust storms." Similarly, user "Maria D." adds, "The cost of living is also on the rise in Tucson, and it can be challenging to find affordable housing options."

Despite these challenges, many still find Tucson to be a great place to call home. As user "Liz W." describes, "Tucson has a unique charm and character that you won't find in other cities. The food scene is amazing, and there are so many outdoor activities to enjoy. Plus, the sunsets are simply breathtaking." From its welcoming community to its diverse amenities, Tucson has left a positive impression on many of its residents.

Number 50 for education - 5/21/2006
Tucson is dead last in the rankings for education. We are also 1st for crime...I guess the two go together. Too close to the Mexican border and a lot of drug trafficking and related crime. I can't wait to get my poor kids out of this state! It is a VERY conservative Republican state too. Very unaccepting of anyone who does not go along with "them". Also housing prices have jumped by 30% in the last year while the income has gone up only 1%. The paper today just had a front page headline that kids graduating in Tucson are not ready for a 4 year college.. Don't come here to raise a family! IT is HOT brown and ugly.Read More

No education - 5/21/2006
The Tuscon schools are aweful! Arizona is the 50th in the nation for education. However we are the first for crime in the nation. Drug use and trafficking are rampant and property crime is #1. Housing prices have increased 30% in the last year and the income has gone up 1%! It is HOT, brown and ugly. English is a second language here and it should just be given back to Mexico!Read More

Way out of the way, and what a waste.... - 5/11/2006
I've lived all over the US from small farm towns to huge metropolitan cities, but I gotta admit, this is probably the worst place I've ever lived. There's all those obvious things that make this the great or worst place depending upon your view, but probably some of the worst things are the cost of living vs. the wage rate, high crime, and don't let people kid you about it all just being property crime, because that's not the case. The southwest has drawn the older population which in and of itself is fine, however due to the city's lack of growth, and even the mayor's statement that we are trying to keep that small town feel, everything leads to everything else.

If you have the option of coming here or not, I would recommend against it...but that's my Read More

What to rent a house with land? - 5/9/2006
Hi All!
But yes, another person looking to move from California (San Diego/Los Angeles). Ack! <:-) Don't worry, we're not looking to invest and raise housing prices, but just looking for a place and life that's affordable where maybe we can open up a little store of our own instead of killing ourselves with overtime in cubicles and living check to check. (If anybody thinks that everyone coming from California has money, well, there are thousands if not millions of us who would beg to differ, and college degrees aside!)

We've both lived in the desert before and heat doesn't frighten us off. :-) We love the desert and a smaller town feel. We did drive through Scottsdale and Phoenix on the way back but they're simply too crowded for our taste.

NOW.. during an extended weekend visit, we really enjoyed this area called Oro Valley (near that amazing Sprouts grocery, you all are so lucky!), and basically wherever the houses actually have land rather than Read More

Go have a mojito, then leave. - 5/7/2006
Tucson is NOT a place to raise kids (summers are horrible & no nature for kids to grow up with! everything is poisonous & sharp), though it's a nice place to get drunk. Jobs are very low-paying, but cost of living is low, also, so...
All in all-- nice place to visit anytime but summer, but for god's sake, don't MOVE there.Read More

We love it here - 4/6/2006
I've lived in Tucson for 10 years now (coming down for college and then staying here). With the exception of bad job market, we love it here. I read about lack of neighborliness and I think that depends on where you live in the town. I live in a community (Civano) that prides itself in its small town feel. We have community picnics, 4th of July parades, Easter egg hunts, a small community charter school. We may have some property crime, but overall I feel safe. I love raising my kids in this neighborhood. We also have beautiful mountain views and excellent weather. I came from the midwest and now when I go visit, I get gloomy with so little sunshine. When people complain about the heat of the summer, i just compare it to the cold of northern winters. Up there you don't go out in the winter, here you don't go out much in the summer except to swim. The beauty of Tucson is somewhat an acquired taste, but once you really start to explore I think you will love it. You can't beat Read More
