I love this town - 7/23/2006
I lived in Fayetteville while I was in grad school. I moved there from Southern Missouri. I thought it would end up being very similar to where I was moving from but it was not. It was much better. Fayetteville has a much more hospitable feel about it. People are kinder and give you more of the small town vibe, despite the fact that it isn't a small town area. With Bentonville, Rogers, and Springdale this is actually a pretty populated place. The town has done a great job keeping trees around and keeping things pretty. There's this huge sense of tradition and pride for the University and the campus is gorgeous. It takes about 15 minutes to drive from one side of the town to the other, and it isn't a huge city, yet everything you could ever need you can find... restaurants, movie theaters, specialty stores, etc... I know that someone said that if they could move back to Fayetteville they would do so, and then another commenter stated that they could if they wanted. Well, I Read More

Fayetteville is not a good place to live - 7/12/2006
The guy that lives in San Fran says he would move back to Fayetteville "if he had the chance". I dont see how that could possibly be true. How could he not "have the chance". If he owns a home in San Fran, he could sell it and live in Fay the rest of his life just off of the proceeds. If he grew up in Fay then he doesnt know what it is like to live there without "kinfolk". Kinfolk seems to be the thing in NW Ark that separates the haves from the have nots. In most normal places, it is money but in Fay it is kinfolk. Of course billionaires do well anywhere, but in Fay, the typical poor person with local kinfolk lives a much better life than the typical middle classer with no local kinfolk. The San Fran guy really likes it better in San Fran, but is just trying to take a stand for his old home Read More

Northwest Arkansas including Fayetteville - 6/9/2006
My family and I moved into the Fayetteville area about 2 years ago. We have lived in different communities in California, South Carolina and Wisconsin. The economy is a mixed economy with Wal-Mart and Tyson foods being dominant players in the area. This translates into areas where the upwardly mobile Wal-Mart and Vendor executives live and play. As well as the agrarian workers that services Tyson industries. So you have the ultra rich as well as the ultra poor each with their own lifestyle. In small towns like you find in Northwest Arkansas (Fayetteville is only like 65,000 people) these divergent lifestyles actually mix. Everyone has been very nice, but you will need to research the nuances to find the area that suites your lifestyle. There are arts centers where you can see high caliber plays and entertainment (Walton Arts Center - Fayetteville). There are plenty of very high society private golf courses and shopping (mostly in the Roger-Bentonville areas). There are areas Read More

An Honest Perspective - 5/22/2006
Fayetteville is a college town situated in the Ozark mountains of northwest Arkansas. The city and its residents have tried hard to plan a thoughtful town that respects families and business alike. Right now, the rapid population growth of Fayetteville and northwest Arkansas is taxing the roads and civil harmony of the town. Fayetteville has excellent schools, is within a day's drive of many scenic treasures, and offers a highly educated but relaxed populace to mingle with down on Dickson. Summers are a little hot and humid, but the other seasons are mild. I have lived many places in the U.S. and Fayetteville ranks as one of the Read More

Fayetteville is a nice place to live - 5/3/2006
I think Fayetteville is a very nice area. There are small rural towns near by, many within 20 minutes drive where you can get a a house 1700 sq ft for 75K-130K depending on how new you want it to be. My sister purchased a nice home in Lincoln for that price. Don't pay too much attention to the jerk who typed all of the horrible stuff about Fayetteville into his last message. I grew up in the area and visit at least twice a year. I have since lived in Houston and I am now in the San Francisco area. I hear just as much if not more intolerant statements made in California than I did in the South. People just don't say it in front of hispanics, gays, etc., but believe me, they say it. In fact, I have had more descrimination thrown at me here in California because of my accent than anywhere else I have ever lived. The university in Fayetteville has thousands of international students, and the area is growing. It is beautiful and pleasant, and you don't sit in traffic for hours Read More

Hard to make friends in Fayetteville, Arkansas - 2/5/2006
Men in Fayetteville Arkansas over the age of 45 are extremely hard to make friends with. They are very close to their relatives and multi-decade friends and are not open to new friendships. They may seem friendly, but try inviting one of them to do something with you. If you speak proper english, they are offended and think you are uppity. They have a good old boys network that is extremely hard to fit into, especially if your vocabulary consists of more than 150 words. It is very clannish AND very cliquish. There are university professor cliques, Tyson Foods cliques, lifelong resident cliques, etc. If you can stand the grossness of the Razorback Hog fans, wearing an Arkansas Razorbacks sweatshirt wouldnt hurt. But you have to learn how to sqeal "pig souie" and risk having your out of state friends see you on tv acting like a low class slob. If you like solitude and are annoyed by people constantly trying to make friends with you, then I would recommend Fayetteville, Arkansas Read More
