Hard to Make Friends - 4/26/2006
Yes, SF is a great city no doubt - but most people move there for work (as I did) so it is not the easiest place to make friends. Most people that live there are not "from there" and tend to stick to there own little group of friends or work all the time. Unless you are young and going out to the bars all the time, making friends can be tough. Especially if you are a 30 something single woman! You will have LOTS of gay male friends, but if you are looking to find a partner in life - SF may not be for you. It's quite laid back and a very non-judgemental city. But at the sametime quite focused on material things due to the cost of living. What you have and what you own become quite important - and before you know it you're also wrapped up in it. Everyone should experience it once - but get out before it makes you Read More

SF- Small, Chamring..unique - 4/6/2006
San Francisco is definitely a unique blend of diversity and culture. I must admit I feel spoiled living here because I feel we have the best food in the nation. With close proximity to the Wine Country, SF boasts some of the best restaurants I have ever been to. SF allows access to every cuisine imaginable. SF offers small distinct neighborhoods which are rich with ethic culture and lots of colorful people from all walks of life. Many of my friends from Europe who have visited have pointed out many similarities to to major european cities. SF is small, charming and full of character. One thing is certain, there is definitely a strong sense of community here. The downside to SF is the cost of living but salaries tend to reflect that. I have lived here for 12 years and definitely consider SF my home. It's no many remark, "I left my hear in San Read More

San Franciso is like a seductic lover! - 2/23/2006
San Francisco is like a seductic lover: pleasing to look at, charming at first, lots of fun, but tons of trouble! Due to the high cost of housing ($700K for a dumpy looking home or condo) many families have already left. K-8 grade schools are currently being closed due to lack of funding from significantly declining student enrollment. City politics are extremely liberal in this gay mecca of the West. The dot.com bust still has not been shaken off. Few companies are hiring. Those that do are extremely picky, creating an extremely competitive working environment. Companies continue to expect more for less. Many jobs are still candidates for outsourcing. I have lived here most of my life, have lots of friends and families, but am actively looking for a better Read More

Parking - 1/21/2006
Parking is absolutely a major hassel. Some meters are only for 1/2 hour. I always live in fear of getting a parking ticket. It really lowers the 'quality of life' in this city.
I feel as if the city is extorting money since they painted so many meters yellow so there are even fewer available for Read More

Disagree with Most Stressful City Ranking - 8/16/2005
I lived in SF for 8 years and was born and raised in the PNW. I feel that CA is a much more stressful environment than Seattle, WA. Most people that live in San Francisco have moved there specifically for a job, therefore meeting people and trying to build a social life is very challenging. Every one is working and living in SF is VERY expensive. California is like living in a separate country, you're isolated from things that are happening outside of California nevermind the USA in general! California is quite a materialistic culture and even though San Francisco has quite a "down to earth" attitude compared to its LA counterpart, it is still much more uptight than Seattle.

You have the center of the technology industry (Silicon Valley) right there, job competition is fierce and everyone is concerned with who is making how much money and who has what, where they went to school, etc. Personally, I am very grateful to be back in the PNW.
