My comp of Okc vs SM differs from stars shown here - 4/8/2021
I moved here to Santa Monica over 10 years ago from Oklahoma City. I was surprised to see that Oklahoma City was ranked higher than Santa Monica on best places.
I guess it all depends on what you’re comparing it to.
I will agree our beach gets trashed by all the tourists but maybe if they got the number of tourists Okc gets it wouldn’t be as bad.
There is a lot of homelessness in Santa Monica but after seeing one with an Oklahoma H.S. T-shirt I started keeping my ears open and the majority are not from CA! They move there (I’ve heard a few homeless say) because the weather is conducive to tent living. So it appears the more in-climate US states, such as Oklahoma, benefit greatly from this migration as CA foots the tab in trying to deal with this huge issue.

Best investment I've made. - 3/23/2021
I've lived in Santa Monica for over 30 years. It's a Mediterranean climate--sunny and temperate when the rest of the country is under snow! I am walking distance to everything I need--Farmer's Markets, post office, shopping centers, groceries, car repairs, excellent medical care and beach. Public transportation is good and always improving. Property is expensive, but it has steadily increased in value over my years here--it's the best investment I've made.
It has its share of unsheltered people and crime. Please tell me of somewhere that doesn't?

I have lived in this city for 4 decades, and it is never been worse than it is now. It is a dangerous disgusting hell hole. Between the crime, the homeless that are not just homeless, but mentally deranged, I cannot recommend anyone moving here. The apathy and acceptance of such a beautiful area to become a crime ridden cesspool of drugs and murder breaks my heart. You can no longer walk your dog at night without fear that you will be stabbed in the neck. With passive city officials, police and residents who do not seem to care for the hell this place is turning into, There is no solution but to move out, or avoid this place at all costs.

Super expensive DUMP. No place to park without risking a ticket 4x a week IF you have permits. The local PO is run by aggro mentally deficient scum who can't deliver mail properly, so you will need to get a private mail center. Cops are USELESS and will not bother to write a report for crime, they are only there to write tickets. Addicts, panhandlers, & homeless hustle you, troll alleys, camp on the street, in Palisades Park and the beaches, which are full of ghetto trash since Metrorail. The city is run like a nazi state. Very few decent restaurants, every business that caters to tourists is so incredibly overpriced, few locals can go out for an evening anymore. Housing costs are astronomical. If you have a rent controlled unit, you'll do without maintenance or pay out of pocket. City govt polishes the turd, but when tourists arrive to see all the filming locations, they see all the filth and criminals that the film crews crop out, or the editors leave on the cutting room

We were lucky enough to meet Molly and Monica during their time at the Sanctuary. We had a heart breaking experience with our first pregnancy and their care went above and beyond! The emotional support we received was so unexpected, but needed. There is no way we would have had such support in a traditional medical setting.
We had a beautiful experience with them during our second pregnancy. And we were thrilled to have the LA Midwife Collective around with them to care for us again in our third pregnancy and birth of our second daughter.
I can't express properly how valuable my care with the LA midwives was. Prenatal visits were not just something I looked forward to because I got to hear my baby and be reassured that she was healthy, but it was a time I felt pampered and honored as a woman and mother.
While no woman will likely describe their birth as easy, I did feel like every detail was explored and organized so that I felt settled
