Easy Living - 12/4/2016
I am a disabled 77 year old woman living in a senior apartment. My daughter lives in Bakersfield and moved me here so I could be close to my daughter and my granddaughter and great granddaughters. I have been here two months now and I can't say enough good things about it. Yes, the local markets are very costly but Walmart and The 99 cent store are here so I don't think my groceries are any higher, gas is cheaper, as are my utilities. I am paying $50.00 more on rent. So now, with social security and a small spousal support I think I am saving money here. The people are wonderful. I will say it again for emphases the people are wonderful. I like it here very much.Read More

Cost of living is below national average, except for groceries. There is only one semi-large market, SaveMart. Fresh & Easy opened in 2010, but tends to be pretty pricey, although their quality is excellent. Prices are about 1/3 higher than normal. I drive into Bakersfield (22 miles) once a month to do major grocery shopping. There are many Latino markets and restaurants in town, 2 Chinese restaurants, and a couple of "American" (hamburgers, etc.), plus Read More
