Locals are always mad - 10/7/2020
I’ve been in Denver for 4 years, and I can honestly say the biggest thing I don’t like about this city is the self proclaimed “natives” (white people who grew up in Denver) who immediately hate anyone who isn’t from Denver. They blame everything on transplants; weed, traffic, job growth, apartments being built, nature being “ruined”, etc. City growth is happening everywhere, but locals view this city as theirs and theirs alone, and they do not like anyone from out of state. Ironically, the friendliest people I’ve met over the years are not from Denver, and the terrible attitudes shared by “natives” are what’s ruining this city. If you read anything negative about traffic, weed, or high cost of living, let it be known that these things have existed in Denver long before the city started growing at the rate it has. This is so sad for me to write. I'm a native, been here since the 70s. Denver was a hidden gem for years, until the legalization of pot.
After pot became legal it brought in all kinds of trash from all over the world. You smell pot everywhere, in your neighborhood, going out to dinner, in the industrial parts of town, even in the Parks! The median income of Denver is $50,000 but yet the average price of a home is over $600,000. How in the world can anyone afford to live here anymore? That's why the homelessness has quadrupled in the last few years! Homeless are setting up tents in the downtown area on city property but the city flushes them out and they end up pitching their tents on neighborhood Lawns without permission. It's so disgusting,

I've lived in the Capitol Hill neighborhood since March 2017. I'll be moving out of Denver within the year. Look, this isn't going to be a positive review, so if you want affirmations about your choice to move here, look elsewhere. I'm trying not to **** on the place, but it's gone way down hill, even during my short stay.

1) Housing is insane- As of August the average house price in Denver Metro is now $600k, in Denver itself, the average home now costs $650k (September article by Westword). Don't think, "I'll just live in the suburbs." The discount is barely noticeable unless you commute from Nebraska. RTD is some of the most expensive public transport in the country. Do yourself a favor and don't look at how much the house you're buying sold for five years ago. You'll feel like a chump.

Native perspective - 9/21/2020
From a native's perspective of course I love my home town. However I am considering leaving it because far too many people are moving here driving up the cost of living, the road congestion, and basically killing the reasons people love Colorado. You can't go anywhere anymore without finding a crowd of people. It takes an hour to get across town. I lived what used to be a 15 minute drive from work and now it can take 30-45 minutes based on traffic. The hiking trails around Denver are packed full of people. I have never in my life had a problem finding a job but with all these people here now it is becoming harder. There are too many people here and I am beginning to feel claustrophobic. I have grown really tired of how we have to tip toe around transplants feelings when they clearly have no regard for what locals want. I fell in love with this city. - 8/5/2020
I lived in Denver for about 9 years. I experienced the most quiet and busy times during these 9 years. I immigrated from Iran to here. I visited some other cities and states as well, but I realized there is no other place for me more comfortable than Colorado, in general, and Denver, more specific,.
There are some pros and cons like other places. But I guess these are pretty personal. Maybe some advantages are dis-advantages for others. In general, Colorado is a nice place to live at.
Cons:
* In the last 5 years, the cost of living, specially housing increased dramatically, specially after legalizing Marijuana.
* Drivers in Denver are ranked among the worsts in the nation, because a lot of people all around the nation moved here
* The rate of skin cancer is very high among people of Colorado due to high altitude
* The commute time increase dramatically due to lots of move-in into the state and city

Full of passive aggressive drug addicts - 7/4/2020
My biggest complaint is that while Denver used to be the friendliest city in America it is know the most frighteningly passive aggressive cities in America.

Jobs here are full of passive aggressive employees who gossip and talk smack about each other behind each other’s backs. They will get you fired just because you don’t show any interest in going and getting black out drunk and snorting cocaine after work, or they just don’t like you for some totally unknown reason.

In every apartment building there are a handful of creepy passive aggressive stalker types who are angry that they are under achieving losers. They usually target people like me who ignore them. They will not stop stalking and harassing you until you call the police and get restraining orders. I have never had any restraining orders against anyone anywhere else, not even in the lunatic asylum known as the Bay Area.

Denver is not what you think. Very Overrated. - 5/25/2020
Denver is finished. It's now known as Little LA. From the smog to the 10k+++ homeless, we have our own skid row...blocks and blocks of tents and homeless downtown. The State Capitol is overrun with homeless as well as Civic Center Park.

They now have needle disposal sights all over downtown. 16th street mall is infested with homeless begging for change, harassing citizens, pissing and defecating in broad daylight, shooting up heroin, etc. It is out of control and the Mayor and the leaders doesn't care.

Ever since the mayor and his good ol' boys came to town, the developers have made a fortune building boxy matchstick apartments where the average rent starts at 1600 for a 1 bedroom.

The streets are now dirtier, the snow doesn't get plowed, drug addicts everywhere and the cops do nothing.

Crime is up, way up. It is completely overrated. I've been to Chicago, Philadelphia and their downtown's are cleaner and less crime infested than Read More
