Lakewood - the pluses and minuses - 11/19/2017
As with most internet reviews, evaluate with a grain of sense. While the last reviewer (Ann S.) has some points about Lakewood, she is quite on the cynical and angry side. I’m a Lakewood resident for over 15 years and a native of Colorado.

Lakewood is the fifth largest city in Colorado and with that comes both the good and the bad. First the good. It’s near the base of the foothills and residents have access to 99 parks and over 180 miles of trails (only one dog park!). Further access to state and Denver/Jefferson County open space parks and lands are within an hour or less ride away. Lakewood is center to the surrounding cities of Denver, Wheat Ridge, Englewood, Littleton, Morrison, and Golden. It has good museums and an active arts scene. Retail, grocery stores, restaurants, and businesses are a plenty. The biggest employers are Federal agencies and St. Anthony’s hospital. We have light rail, Colorado Christian College, and Red Rocks Community College, though we are Read More

The area is going downhill - 7/24/2017
If you ask anyone who has lived in the Denver metro area the last decade they will tell you the entire area is going downhill as it transforms before their eyes.

Overall crime is increasing (10% last year, 5% this year), a current housing shortage and ridiculously high rent (plus increased burglaries from people trying to make ends meet) and home prices that are bound to come crashing down again, floods of people from all states invading for either the hope of a job or cheap legal marijuana or illegal aliens flocking because Denver is a still a sanctuary city handing out freebies, a poorly run democratic government that robbed basic infrastructure funds to fund obamacare and other fat and then had the nerve to push for a tax hike to make citizens pay for their management mistakes (if they don't get their act together it's trending towards becoming another epic failure democratic run state like Chicago or Baltimore and a host of others in decline with high crime from Read More

Contemplating relocating to Lakewood, Co ... - 11/13/2016
I am a Federal employee contemplating relocating (Summer, 2017) to the Denver area, specifically Lakewood. I was told Lakewood, was a desirable area. I work remotely i.e., out of my home and want to find a safe area to live. I want to begin by renting. Any suggestions??? Thank you Read More

Lived in Lakewood 14 years - 4/4/2015
Lakewood is a very nice town just east of the Foothills of the Rockies. Spring time is beautiful but a 75 degree day could easily turn into a blizzard with several inches or feet of snow! From June to October the weather is pretty dry, we do not see a lot of rain and the landscape (except for the many well maintained parks) become very crisp and brown. The winters can be pretty mild and when we do get snowfall, it's typically melted off within days. the temps are typically mild, high 30's to low 40's but don't be fooled because Jan/Feb are our coldest months with many days below Read More

Great city if you enjoy the outdoors - 9/22/2012
Go west and in 30 minutes you're in ski country. Go east and in 20 minutes your in downtown Denver for a show or a professional sporting event. Great weather most of the year. Some big snows and cold temperatures, but it generally warms up within a few days and the snow is Read More

Median home cost higher - 2/23/2011
The median home cost is more like $190,000+ for a decent ranch. Better homes are in the $235,000+ range. $160,000 is more like a townhouse or Read More

Lovely Community Minutes from Downtown Denver - 6/29/2010
Lakewood, Colorado is a wonderful little community just minutes from Downtown Denver. Cities nearest to Lakewood are: Golden, Arvada, Wheat Ridge and Littleton. The Eastern/North Eastern side of Lakewood, and the closer you get to downtown, has a rich Hispanic population, and to the South East holds a more Asian population. Both have lots of good ethnic restaurants and speciality shops. To the West, and the closer you get to the foothills is a more Caucasian population with lots of parks, bike paths, and shopping.

Denver in general has an excellent public transporation system via bus and light rail. The light rail system is currently being built through Lakewood and I believe will be completed in 2012. A new hospital is also under construction on the West side of town.

Overall, Lakewood is a clean, comfortable city to live Read More

Lakewood, Colorado - 10/6/2009
Excellent place to live if your desire is to explore the outdoors; skiing, hiking, mountain biking, canoe/kayak...and the list goes on. Easily accessible to major airport and convenient location to access the Rockies. People are friendly and the general attitude laid-back. The only source of stress would stem from the high volume of traffic but what do expect from such a desirable Read More
