I have lived in East Hartford for many years, went to school here in the 60's &70's. In 1980 I left for about 21 years and returned in 2001. While still a quiet residential town, the loss of many jobs at Pratt and Whitney Aircraft has hurt many of the smaller businesses, property values and the standard of living. Many of the P & WA workers lived in East Hartford and with the loss of their jobs, meant the inability to maintain their property, as they once had. The town isn't as progressive as it used to be and the infrastructure needs updates, but without the tax base the town once had that probably won't happen any time soon.........it is a shame. Read More

pretty good melting pot - 6/4/2015
if I were relocating from a distant state, I would move here. (06118 zip code) housing prices will be depressed for a while due to many foreclosures, but having researched housing prices in MD, VA, and PA, I was surprised to see EH is relatively inexpensive for being relatively close to NY and Boston (2 hours). You can get pretty much anything you want from close by and even though Hartford is not the most entertaining city in the world, they do have concert venues and we are not terribly far from the Indian Casinos Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun (1 hour) which also have quite a bit of entertainment. Beaches on the ocean are also close by (1 hour) and there is also a boat launch onto Connecticut River within 15 minutes of here in Wethersfield to the best of my knowledge. Schools are not all that great, but I believe there are some alternatives.
