Was once a very desirable place to live - 8/4/2019
If you want a fairly affordable place to live near or by the beach, this is it. It used to be quieter, though. Too much development and the Daytona events are moving up this way. Tomoka State Park is right here and then there is the lovely “Loop” and other parks with historic structures (remnants of old sugar mills). We live in a community built in the 70s. People have done a good job redoing the houses...no cookie cutters. But people are generally not friendly. Very “red” area.
The Main Street/downtown Ormond area is historic and cute and offers a number of independently owned restaurants. There are regular “art walks,” new little shops and restaurants popping up here and there.
The beach is gorgeous on this part of the Atlantic coast.
My problem with the area is that people have found out about it and it is being overdeveloped and wildlife is being chased out. Traffic is getting MUCH worse and crime has increased. We are going to leave. Read More

Rotten place to live - 3/8/2019
Bike week 2019 has just started. I have lived here for 3 years. There is nothing here except tons of traffic, tract housing, lousy restaurants, no culture, substandard shopping, ridiculous fees and taxes, and almost nothing to do except bum around the dirty beach. If you are a professional person, or you are used to the culture and amenities of a normal city or suburb, you will hate this place like I do. Lots of rude rednecks here too. Read More

Disappointing - 5/2/2014
2014 April: Moved here about 5 years ago as part of a job transfer. At first, I was impressed by the sunshine and the quiet, laid back lifestyle. If that is what you are looking for, you will probably be satisfied living here. After a short time, this becomes a boring place to live. There is practically no culture, no arts, museums, concert/music venues, etc. There are a few local museums, but they are not impressive. The local concert venue attracts mainly old, long obsolete talent, and just a few events each year.

The big events here are Bike Week, Biketoberfest, and NASCAR races. If you like car racing and motorcycles, this is the place for you. If not, you will grow to dread these events like most of the residents here.

12/22/09 a medium house price of 140k, annual property taxes $2,300 and high insurance due to hurricane zone of $1,500. Ormond Beach is a bit of a jewel in a backward area. Unfortunately, the entertainment around here centers on Bike Week, Biketoberfest, Speed Week, and Spring Break. In between those illustrious events it can be very nice living here. The cost of living is reasonable, the schools are adequate (but shop around and buy where your kids will go to the best Elementary and Middle schools, students may attend any high school they wish), crime is low, and the environment is very clean (except for the noise and trash generated by the events mentioned earlier). Lots of retirees, so simple things like grocery shopping becomes a lesson in patience.
