Just my experience - 7/17/2022
The Village’s is a great place to ride your bike with all the many bike trails or golf cart trails to ride on, the problem with this place that ive experienced with this place is high defamation, very antagonistic, nosy, and spiteful people, i can say not all are like that who live here, but most are. They carry themselves as if they own the place and that you don’t belong there unless you live there attitudes. Some of the people are friendly others are not and very judgmental. Its a good place for variety of food and drinks or if you just wanna sit by yourself and have a coffee they have plenty of places for you to sit in solitude on the waterfront and small natural habitats where you can soak up sunlight or sit in the cool of the shade. Its a great place to hang out, just some of the people make it not so great of a place. It can be a very harmonious place, and at other times it can be disharmonious depending on the people who are in the Read More

Since 2010, it has had a population growth of 85.0%, which is a bit low compared to 2020.
As for the Cons - Violent Crime - This is definitely not true. It might be in Ocala Fl but in the Villages, we don’t have any violent crime. "Best Places" needs to correct much of their information and make The Villages a separate place rather than incorporate with Ocala, FL, which is a good 45 minutes drive north of The Villages. I feel sorry for the person who wrote the prior statement, he seems to be a “Grumpy Old Man” who would have a difficult time living anywhere, with his attitude.Read More

Crowded and Expensive - 7/18/2018
In spite of its beautiful and manicured appearance, The Villages is all about money. Spending it. Drinking it mostly. No good medical care. Food is in poor condition by the time it is unpacked into the stores. Summers would be better spent absolutely anywhere else on the planet. People are busy spending or drinking their money away. Mostly second homes, with people rushing to the next golf game. Oops! Did I just kill someone racing in my gold cart ? Oh well, there’s a drinking hole within a few miles! Let’s Read More

The Best Place to Retire - 6/26/2017
I've lived in The Villages now for almost 2 years and I also am a Realtor with REMAX Premier Realty that sells into The Villages and surrounding areas.
We are currently at 83 recreation centers, 48 golf courses, 3 town squares with approx 3,000 social clubs and approx 40 square miles in size and still growing. The only real way to see if you would like The Villages is to come and spend several days or a week. Come see if riding in a golf cart everywhere is for you, be able to swim in a different pool every day for 2+ months before you go back to the same pool you started at or go dancing every night at one of the town squares. If this sounds like fun welcome to my life. Read More

Tri-County city - 4/30/2009
As in your case, many reviews of The Villages miss the boat due to the city being in three different counties. Part is also under the police jurisdiction of Lady Lake, Florida, a fourth political entitie. To top it all off it is not an incorporated city, but a large number of Community Development Districts, banded together to form a single large community, hence the term, The Villages. It is very large, with a current population around 73,000 people. It is slated to be approximately 110,000 people at build out in the next 5-10 years. The quality of life is amazing. The entire location (some tens of square miles) is golf cart accessible. That means you can drive your cart from home to play golf, shop at the grocery store, pickup your laundry, and finish with dinner at a fine resturant. All while driving your golf cart. With approximately 1,000 clubs and groups, you would have a hard time not finding a group to enjoy yourself with. Nightly dancing on two large squares, a low Read More

Update - The Villages - 7/11/2008
I reviewed your description of The Villages and thought you should know that it has been very understated. Our population in 2008 exceeded 70,000 and the average age is much younger than 68. Last figure I heard was closer to 58. The Villages Charter schools, elementary, secondary and high school, as well as The Villages public elementary school have had multiple years of A rating, a very desirable attraction to employment. The Villages is the largest employer in Sumter County, the largest self contained golf cart community in The United States, boasting A+ rated hospitals, more daily activities than one can imagine, 972 holes of championship golf with 9 Country Clubs,at least 24 executive courses (free), 7 Regional Recreation Centers, at least 37 local recreation centers for swimming, tennis, pickleball, 2 bowling centers, a Polo team with state of the art grounds, 2 town squares with a 3rd on the drawing board, and much more to offer than there is space.
