Oviedo, FL is a beautiful city located in Central Florida, about 20 miles from Orlando and only 45 minutes from the coast. Known for its charm, Oviedo is a great place to visit for those looking for outdoor activities and shopping opportunities. With plenty of parks, trails, and recreational areas, there are plenty of options to keep you active. Shopping is plentiful at the Oviedo Mall or in any of the local stores around town.
The reviews of Oviedo are all fairly positive with visitors often citing that it's a great destination to explore. People enjoy the small-town atmosphere and appreciate the friendly locals they encounter while visiting. The area is known for its wonderful restaurants and nightlife scene as well as having numerous festivals throughout the year that are quickly becoming popular destinations for tourists looking for something different than Disney World or Universal Studios. The quality schools, convenient access to downtown Orlando, and low cost of living makes this a desirable location to live too!

Exceptional Town, Exceptional People! - 11/29/2021
My family retired here from the cold north and have never been happier. We searched Arizona (didn't like the scorpions, lack of green, or air quality after sand storms), California (didn't like the taxes or home prices), the Carolinas (this would have been our second choice), but fell in love with our home the moment we opened the front door and saw over the pool to the golf course it backs up to. The home needed a lot of work and we've remodeled every inch, but it was well worth it because we were fortunate enough to purchase it in 2011 when housing prices were more reasonable. It's worth significantly more than the total investment, but we don't plan on ever selling.

Our grandchildren were very young at the time, and the close proximity to the attractions, beaches (both sides of the state are easily accessible), airport (our grandchildren have flown unaccompanied since they were 5), and other fun things to do for little ones allowed it to surpass the other areas of Read More

Still Growing - 3/23/2017
Oviedo is a wonderful place to live and raise a family. Low crime rate and fun community events create a strong community. We are experiencing strong growth in new developments as more and more people are moving into the city.

Housing prices are growing as well unfortunately but there are still plenty of deals to be found if a buyer has Read More

To live in Florida or not? - 2/24/2013
I've been in Oviedo since 2001 and it is a nice place to live as far as family goes. Seminole county schools are considered better than the others in Central Florida. Go for Hagerty High School district :) and yes I'm a bit biased on that one. Keep in mind they are still FL schools, and definitely not as good as schools up north or other parts of the country. Competitive colleges: UCF, UF, FSU. UF considered the best of the offerings in the state as far as public universities go -- although I can't speak to U of Miami. If you like tons of heat and humidity year round and no change of seasons whatsoever (except for perhaps a couple weeks in Jan/Feb for cooler weather) then by all means, come to FL. Bugs, spiders, cockroaches...ick. Get a good exterminator and don't bother trying to conquer them with your own spray bottle. Beaches are typically crowded and not as nice as other parts of the east coast. Surfers like hurricane season as it brings decent waves, rest of the time the waves Read More

ground zero for housing crash - 8/9/2010
Oviedo is a nice, safe community with excellent public schools (Seminole county.) There is a nice mix of ages, ethnic groups and income levels, which is great. This is a great place to raise a family.
Borders the huge UCF campus, and near research parks. About an hour from Disney, space center and beaches.
Horrendous crash in housing prices from mid-2000s. Cut in half, foreclosures are everywhere. Read More

I love it in Oviedo - 3/17/2010
I've lived in Oviedo now for about 8 or 9 years and love it. I've seen the growth in Oviedo and it's been a boom for a while now. With the increase in the population, there has been a need for retail, restaurants and services to come to the city...and they have. Everything in Oviedo is convenient to me. The mall is 10 minutes away, the 417 (highway) as well, parks (several of them including a skate park for the kids), and yet it's less than 30 minutes to downtown Orlando. I'm glad I've moved there and live in a very nice subdivision which was built about 6 years ago. There is a lot of construction not only in residential, but, in commercial real estate as well. The only issue I've had to deal with is that just like any fast growing area, crime has begun to "creep" in. There have been numerous burglaries in the area, both in my subdivision as well as just this morning in my neighborhood. The days of leaving your front door and car unlocked are in the past. Aside from that, Read More

I don;t know if you have viited Oviedo to get a real view of our faur city but it is worth the trip.We are a small toen with bigtown ammenities like world class schooling and reacriation..our parks and sports facilitie some of which were built in hopes of getting World Games amre firt class.
The people are friendly /I have lived here for 15 years in a house that cost us 109.000$ to buikd 4 bedrooms three full baths living room dining room lagre eatin kitchen and family room...Our house is now worth 350.000$
The homes hold there value due to the fact that we are near both elementary middle and brandnew high schools all built within last 16 years elementary and newer for the upper grades..people who upgrade to bigger house have often not left the community simply gone to bigger home in Oviedo...

Great place for kids and chickens - 7/6/2006
We moved to Oviedo about two and a half years ago and have found it a warm (climate, too) and welcoming community. Of course in Florida everyone is from somewhere else (almost) and so transients are made most comfortable here. Oviedo has held onto its roots, but not for much longer. The developers have built and built and built developments and are hovering on the verge of revamping the downtown and taking away its old Florida charm.

Oviedo's roots are in agriculture -- at one time named the celery capitol of the world, I'm told. The city boasts about its free-range chickens that inhabit the downtown and run freely. Traffic signs and penalties have been installed to alert people that chickens have the right of away. There's something endearing about a town that protects its domestic fowl. But, the same ones who hope to renovate the downtown have cried "Bird Flu" and are doing their best to get rid of the chickens.

Great city + kids everywhere - 11/17/2005
We just moved to Oviedo and we love it. Lots of things to do. We are a "suburb" of Orlando (NE of Orlando in Seminole County) located about 30 minutes from the Disney area and about an hour from the Ocala National Forest and natural springs. We also have Daytona Beach and Cape Canaveral an hour away. Outdoor activities around here are plentiful. Plenty of parks. We have beatiful weather 9 months of the year (summer is hot -90's- and humid which makes it perfect for the beach or the Ocala cool springs). Our schools are 'A rated' and brand new. A new high school is going to be built this year. Crime is very low (much lower than the national average). Housing prices are reasonable but going up fast due to the quality of life here. If you have kids and are looking for a great place to live consider Read More
