Why does such a small town have so many homeless? - 6/12/2008
St. Augustine is a wonderful place to live on many counts--it's natural beauty and historic preservation, among others--however, why does a city with a population of approximately 20,000 have so many homeless on its streets? Granted, the economy is bad all over these days, but I've not seen this in other comparably-sized cities in Read More

St. Aug - 1/6/2008
St. Augustines provides the best of several little luxuries. It provides a safe, luxurious, beautiful beach with drive-on access, without tourism being too heavy, a beautiful downtown historical district with tons of local shops, boutiques, and restaurants. Flagler College is beautiful and jam-packed with history. A cute, slower-paced small beach town that is livened up every year in the Read More

Possibly moving and need your advice - 4/10/2007
I am currently living in the Daytona Beach surrounding area and am thinking about moving to a nicer area. However my husband and I are not in the mid to upper end of the salary chart. So far the comments I have seen have been about the golf courses and living on the beach and living in a nice expensive subdivision.
My real question is for people who have to work to make a living, is this such a place without having to deal with a lot of crime, loud parties constantly, loud booming stereos? Is looking for a 600/month one bedroom apt/flat out of the question in this area?
What are the utilites/food/gas like? Does this town mostly cater to all the tourists? Is this a local resident/family friendly area?
Please let me know. I want a good, clean safe QUIET place to live that is affordable? or am I just asking to much for Florida.Read More

Uncontrolled growth without accompanying services - 10/3/2006
We love our home in St. Augustine, but the "county planners" are not doing their job! They seem to be too caught up in the economic boom that accompanies rapid growth. We hope someone will get a grip on this problem. It's HOT, HOT, HOT from June through September. Just when you think you will get a break from the heat, it's back again. One of us likes the heat and the other really dislikes it, and is always looking for ways to escape it. The winters are beautiful. Hard to garden in summer with the heat. Last month we had a water mocassin and a pygmy rattler in the yard - one right in the garden, which is discouraging. There is a wide variety of cultural events - from opera to folk singing and rock bands. First Friday of the month art walks are Read More

St. Augustine R.E. Taxes are raised again. - 8/31/2006
Our RE taxes just increased from $2800.00 to $9100.00 in 1 year, and the City couldn't care less. I live in the Lincolnville Read More

Coast of Living - 8/14/2006
I believe that the taxes are high if you live on the water, but inland they are less than Duval county. Unless you have a cdd charge in your neighborhood for protecting the preserve then they are not bad. Depends on where you want to live and what kind of community you live in and if you want a nice neighborhood with Read More

Nice Weather and Pretty Beaches - 8/14/2006
We love it here in St Augustine Beautiful place to live and a lot of History and things to do. The Beaches are beautiful and the deep sea fishing is great. We are about 35 to 40 miles outside of DT Jacksonville. Golfing is a number one sport and in our community we have had guest such as Tiger Woods and others play on our Golf Read More

Property taxes and insurance out of control. - 8/4/2006
Property taxes and insurance are outrageously high. If you can afford them, this is a nice place to retire. Not much in the way of high paying jobs. Mostly service Read More
