Positive Changes and Growth for The Oldest Black I - 3/31/2008
Brooklyn is waking up after a long long sleep! The Historical Society of Brooklyn llinois was founded July 23, 2007. The history of the town can be found on the website: www.brooklynillinoisourstory.com. HSOBI, in conjunction with the Illinois Historical Preservation Agency, will begin restoration of Brooklyn's historic cemetery which is one of the oldest Free Black Cemeteries west of the Allaghany Mountains.

The Multi Community Task Force assisted Mayor Nathanial O'Bannon in implementing First Time Home Buyers project for Brooklyn which will offer incentives for former residents to return and build homes on abandoned property.
