A positive and realistic outlook! - 7/11/2012
I have lived in Danville for 3 years. It seems the city is plagued by negative opinions by people who have been here for a long time! It does seem that it has changed a lot in the last 20 years, but it is not as bad and people make it out to be. We bought a major fixer-upper house for less than $20,000 and we will own it free and clear in a few months. That's unheard of in 99% of the country. Our block (which is in the center of Danville) has had several houses purchased and fixed up in the last 2 years. We love our neighbors and feel very safe. If you are able to find employment in Danville (which is not too difficult if you have a college degree), you can live VERY well because the cost of living is SO low. We are able to take awesome vacations and more importantly be ALMOST DEBT FREE because we have extra money due to the low cost of living. The school system is not excellent, but there is a great magnet elementary school that I have heard nothing but positive things Read More

Don't blame the People for the crime - 3/13/2011
I'm Rev David Warren from 1st Responders in Christ Ministry here in Danville. I have heard from many say the blacks are cause of the crimes in Danville, I dissagree, I think all colors are guilty. But I don't want to blame any one person because of the color of their skin, The reason why? It's not the person to blame but a dark spritual force influencing those to commit the crimes. There is only good or evil, day or night in the world, If God does not exsist in their life as well as the city, there will be crime rampant no matter who or what color of a person. This summer I and others will be walking around town reclaiming the city for God, I believe the figures of crime being high before we start will drop after we reclaim the city to show all that God can and will bring peace to those who believe.God doesn't want any city to be in dispare. Many will see a different city after awhile, yes there is hope. I ask for churchs and christians to write me at prophet121965@aol.com if Read More

Overall summary of life in Danville - 12/9/2010
I've lived in/near Danville my entire life. My family had a small business here. It used to be a very "Mayberry" type of town with children riding their bikes, playing ball, people out walking their dogs, jogging, we had a couple of public swimming pools and lake with a beach (now closed), a nice county fair, a mall where all the kids would meet and eat at one of the shops at the food court (now gone)... Within only the past five or so years it has hit rock bottom. Unfortunately our city fathers made a deal with the city of Chicago when it closed the Cabrini Green slum. They wanted to break up the violent gangs and criminal activity so they were sent to Danville and surrounding towns. It is not safe to leave your house after dark. Violent crime has become the norm. Much of it is not reported in the media. I have friends in law enforcement which was not increased or trained to deal with the new citizens. They have come in swarms and completely taken over the town. Besides nearly all of Read More

A Positive View Of Danville Illinois - 2/26/2010
To all the detractors of Danville Illinois

The only thing you got correct about Danville is our history over last 25 years of not getting a break on additional Businesses and Jobs.
The rest of the comments that have been made are from what appear to be "blinded" people.
During the summer time, there are many things to do in around Danville, water sports, horseback riding, hiking, baseball, concerts at lincoln park, and many other activities. There is a newsletter put out by the Chamber every friday with many things on it to do for all ages. These activities go on all year round.
As far as I can see our "crime" is no better or worse than any other city our size. If all you spend your time on is looking for negative stuff, that is all that you will see.
If you spent just as much time looking for the good things around our city and the area you will find a mixture of caring community citizens that do get involved and take pride in the city.

Horrible - 5/27/2009
The school system may be the worst I have ever seen, There is no jobs the only thing Danville knows how to do is build little fast food resteraunts in the north end of town which use to be an okay part of town now you have the Danville apartments next to the vacant mall, by the way the mall is a joke. The north end now is home to alot of drugs and crime but they wont tell you that. You will have to move out of the area to live anywhere decent your kids will either be on drug, an alcholic or a criminal if they grow up in Danville...absolutely nothing for them to do here except find trouble. To be honest with you I think most of the adults herte are drunks, druggies or criminals. Everything from the law enforcement the courts to the schools are ran by people who have no clue how to run things. Even r hospital cant deal with trauma no more. We closed one hospital and now have to go to Logan Campus, If you have to got there with a life threating illness they cant help there is no good Read More

One of the worst cities in the state! - 3/1/2008
Danville is easily one of the worst places to live in the state of Illinois. Crime is high, schools are terrible, and the area is economically depressed. Unemployment and poverty are huge problems here. On the plus side, it has all the advantages of a small town, and housing is dirt-cheap (as to be expected from such a crappy place to live). Unfortunately, that's not enough to save Danville from becoming one of Illinois' future ghost towns. Avoid Danville at all costs, and don't say I didn't warn Read More

needs manufacturing jobs - 1/7/2007
I have been living in the danville il area for about thirty years now in that time i have seen higher crime rate, less jobs and a downsize in population.Danville city needs more jobs.there are a lot of min wage jobs and 9.00 hour jobs in this area but you can not live off of this income.i have notice that the city will not work with companies comming into this area, what i mean is city would not give a tax brake to the dollar general warehouse that was suppose to be built off of lynch road.i wish that the city mayor and council members would try to get better paying jobs in the city of danville.also the city needs to improve the lynch road and clean up the city.we need better paying jobs and better school systems and to clean up the Read More

Don't come here! - 12/12/2006
My husband and I moved here 4 years ago and it has been the most horrible 4 years of my life. There is nothing to do here, the school systems are horrible and the community envolvement is little to be desired. We came here with the intentions of leaving after two years but the jobs here do not pay enough for you to even begin to get ahead. Needless to say we are in the process of moving out of the state and have no plans on EVER coming Read More
