NOLA review - 7/1/2023
I have lived in NOLA for 6 years. Like all cities, you must take the good with the bad. It is more expensive than what you read about on the internet. The drivers are insane - stopping is optional, no respect for one-way streets, right hand turns from the left lane. From Memorial Day to mid-September it is so hot and muggy. Ok, all that is true. NOLA is so alive, it has a "front porch" culture where everyone is your neighbor, the people are friendly. You can enjoy the many festivals with your friends, no shame in staying home as well - it will be back next year. The weather is perfect mid-September to May. So many great restaurants tucked away in neighborhoods to find. It is bike friendly, public transportation is good and cheap, and the city is very walkable. Lots of wonderful parks and places to exercise and enjoy nature. I have taken the time to learn the history and culture of NOLA which makes living here so interesting. Unhappy here - 7/19/2022
I've lived here for going on 3 years. The person who lives with me wanted us to move here. It got old for me very soon after we moved here. Neither of us like it. People gripe about the weather I notice but other than the fear of a hurricane, the weather is the best thing about the New Orleans area. We got stuck out in 1 of the parishes but even if I lived right downtown, I might be a little happier, but I still would want out of here. We only got to travel out of here 3 times so far. We went to Houston once over a year ago. The other 2 times we went to Mobile, Alabama and Baton Rouge, LA, both are towns. New Orleans downtown is like 1 big town. The worse thing about the NOLA area to me is that any big city is very far away. Houston, Texas (not that exciting) takes 8 hours on the Amtrak to get to. Atlanta, Georgia takes 12 hours on the Amtrak to get there and about 10 hours I'd guess on a bus. I'd love to visit Atlanta or Dallas but they both take many hours to get there.

Lived here 20 years, transplant from a dank Midwestern metropolis. For the first 15 years I was pretty much one of those rabid people foaming at the mouth whenever anyone dared critique the city. Then life happened. Job, house, kids, etc. Guess you could say I grew up. And this city ain’t for grownups who like things like stability, good quality of life, taxpayer funded services that actually work…that sorta stuff. This place is a hot miserable swamp half the year and then just plain broken the rest of the time. It’s an endless cycle of the same festivals over and over and the same people with the same ideas waxing poetic about “the good old days”. Like a Sartre play with crawfish.

New Orleans is Not for Civil people - 5/30/2021
The city of New Orleans is a hell pit. For starters it’s ranked as the Most Corrupt, One of the top heavy crime areas in the nation. Murders are common. Drugs are out of control and so is the poverty rate. So the person saying it was one of the most friendly and positive cities, sounds like it’s a city official or someone too dumb to see reality. The place ranks poorest, least educated and a host of other lows, I think someone already pointed that out in other reviews because thats FACTS!
The mayor Latoya Cantrell is too busy keeping businesses shut down to even care about the crime or any of the city’s major issues. Pot holes are everywhere, the flood prevention measures are NEVER up to date because the funds that are supposed to be for upgrades to the infrastructure end up being stolen and misused by the Democrat run corrupt machine there.

alright well, i dont know the city well, but here are some of my impressions. i had just come from ny, so i was used to people being very rude, so needless to say, new orleans seemed friendly. people greeted you, and generally are helpful. again, coming from ny, it was heavily segregated. white people socialized with whites, and blacks with blacks, but in new orleans, it seemed that blacks, and white associated with one another. you also get better bargains in new orleans. you can get a bufet on weekday lunches for only $10, but in ny, you only get a steak sandwich for that price, and not even a good one. the one major disdvantage nola has is that it is too hot, and wet. hotels too. in nola you get big nice rooms, whereas in ny you get small old rooms for $100. the downtown new orleans area seems to have a lot of thugs standing on the street, maybe even more than ny. when i saw that, it reminded me of

Sadly, the reviews here about the dangerous police, dangerous crime, corruption of public officials, bad race relations, bottom of the barrel education, and absence of a culture that once existed eons ago are all true. New Orleans, corruption, filthy, cursed - 2/20/2019
I lived in New Orleans for 7 long years and I agree with the person that said the culture there is a myth.
What you encounter as a tourist and what you deal with as a resident are 2 completely different things. The residents still whine about hurricane Katrina. The fact is just look it up over $700 Million went missing of federal money that was given to New Orleans. Its never been accounted for. Now do the math, the politicians are just trash and corrupt to the core.
As a resident the amount of corruption becomes apparent rather quickly, the corruption runs deep and most things tin that town operate througha "good ol boy" club consisting of crooked sheriffs, judges, police and other city officials.
