Our hometown is being eaten up by outsiders while - 11/6/2007
Friendsville and the surrounding area is a beautiful place to grow up and raise a family. Within 40 minutes drive to four larger metro areas, it is also ideal for living in the country and still being able to find a good job. HOWEVER, the cost of living is becoming so high that it is nearly impossible for native Friendsville families to find homes. The area is being advertised and sold off to part time vacationers from large metro areas like Baltimore and DC. Because real estate brokers advertise everything as being "close to the lake," our hometown is being eaten up by outsiders while long-term residents are forced to settle for what's left--often a modular home that could be bought elsewhere for a fraction of the price.
