With plenty of attractions such as golf courses, lakeside restaurants, antique stores, local art galleries, and more - there's something for everyone in Lakeville! Overall, people have great reviews of this small town in Minnesota; they appreciate its friendly atmosphere and safe neighborhoods while being only minutes away from larger cities such as Minneapolis.

Honest Thoughts on Lakeville - 5/13/2019
We lived in Lakeville for 3 years (2015-18). My husband and I have traveled all over the country. We've lived in California, Hawaii, Arizona, Colorado and Minnesota. Lakeville was one of our favorite spots, and miss it but can't move back! Here are some honest thoughts:

PROS:
-Cleaner Air than Twin Cities (Higher Elevation)
-Close to the Airport, but little airplane noise
-Everything you need is nearby, we rarely needed to "cross the river" (except for work, see the CONS below)
-Lovely parks and walking trails, especially Ritter Farm Park and Antlers
-Close proximity to other parks which have wonderful mountain biking, Nordic skiing, and paved bike trails (Murphy, Lebanon Hills, Schaar's Bluff, Whitetail Woods, etc.)
-We had a great church (Berean Baptist)
-Lowest crime rate of anywhere we have lived, no homeless people, like... ever (too cold?)
-Great schools and safe place to raise a family

The southern Twin Cities has pros and cons - 6/8/2018
I’ve grown up in Lakeville for 20 years. I know this area better than the back of my hand.

The schools are excellent, especially North HS. The housing is cheap and there are plenty of new developments. Crime is super low in Lakeville.

However, I honestly do not like it here. The weather is just awful, either frozen arctic or unbearable mid-summer humidity and there is enough swamp and woodland to bring in hoards of mosquitoes in the summer. The farm community has kept the area painfully slow-paced and boring (not to mention very white). If you want to go to the cities to do something, you’ll probably face unwanted traffic on 35 or Cedar.

Believe it or not, the twin cities is a fantastic metropolitan area compared to the rest of the Midwest. It’s safe and cheap. People are nice, but not very welcoming. The air is cleaner most of the time. Still, if you want better weather and more to do, move to either coast and never look back. I’m moving Read More

Terrible Place to Raise Kids - 7/21/2011
I have found Lakeville to have many amenities and its nice its so close to the Twin Cities. HOWEVER, unless have bunches of money in your pocket or are a local you will find Lakeville a terrible place to live. Lakeville is the clickiest place I have ever lived and I, and many others hate it. It is a very political motivated environment which is hostile unless you become one of the Lakeville zombies. I have spoken to others that have lived in Lakeville and moved away, and they have the same comments. Looking for a place to retire someday - 7/30/2009
Currentlty we live in Lakeville, MN. Very nice but would like to someday find a location that is just as wonderful but with less of a winter. I'm not saying no winter, just ones that are not 6 months long. If I could knock 2 - 3 months off my winter time, I would be happy. Sweatshirt weather is what's best. Great Place to Live - 8/22/2007
Great place to live. Took a job transfer from suburb of Philadelphia and love it here. Minnesota nice has been very true for us. As an example, went to a parade in the city and asked a large group of people to allow me to throw out a cup in the trash can that they happened to be standing around. They turned and offered to throw it out for me!

As mentioned, people are very friendly. Location is great. Since I fly frequently, it was important for me to have easy access to the airport. Door to door is only 25 minutes which is great. And, MSP is a great airport that is easy to get around with lots of amenities.

Shopping is great. Burnsville Center Mall (Macy's, Penney's, and Sears) is within about 10 minutes and Mall of America is less than 20 minutes away.

Culturally, can be in downtown Minneapolis or St. Paul in about 30 minutes.

Raised in Lakeville - 7/19/2005
I am 22 and I have lived in Lakeville all my life. When I was young, there was a cornfield in my backyard and a barn at the top of my street. I can remember the years that the transformation began to take place. Soon, there were countless roads and houses behind my house and now a new high school where the barn stood.

My parents tell me that there is a joke that used to go something like, "Watch out for the Indians if you go to Lakeville." That was meant to warn city-people that Lakeville was way out in the boonies.

Today it is a community full of young people that is growing fast. Our second high school is opening soon. A SuperTarget opened up a few years ago where another patch of wilderness once was. We got a Cub recently and will be getting a Rainbow. But we still have to drive to Burnsville to go to the mall! (which is okay by me)
