Minneapolis - 4/5/2006
Minneapolis Crime is way up. This year alone robberies are up 100%. I have lived in Minneapolis for 20 years. The average murder rate in Mineapolis is about 50 and they acure mostly in short summer months. Last summer the local news stations were telling Minneapolis resisdents not to leave the windows open for now reason. Downtown is not a safe place to walk around and enjoy the activities. I feel safer in New York City and Chicago. The houses are way over prices. Houses haver triple in price only in the last 7 years. To get a half way decent house you need to spend around 260,000. If you want to live near the metro lakes, you will have to spend at least 500,000 and up. The people are really not the nice. Most people will not look at you or even say hi back. The winters are too long. They weather if aweful from Oct 20 through mid April every Read More

Somolians - 4/2/2006
After moving here and seeing an absurd amount of Somolians in Minneapolis, I was confused. I was told the US transported tons of Somolians from one of the hottest places in the world (Africa) to live in one of the coldest. I didn't think it made much sense, but I guess the US had a good reason for Read More

Beware of some posts - 3/31/2006
First, let me say the posts widest of the mark on Minneapolis are the most poorly written.

I will unabashedly say that I love Minneapolis, and have lived here most of my life. The bittersweet fact is that I will be moving (I haven't decided where) in a few years, pretty much entirely due to the winter being too long and harsh.

There are some negative stereotypes about Minneapolis that I will confirm. First, this is not a city for singles. I cannot underscore this enough. It is extremely hard to meet people here. This is a city to settle in, which most people have done: they have their families and/or circle of friends, so their dance cards are full and it is hard to break into a social circle. It is not *impossible* to befriend people here, it just happens at a slower pace than in other, more cosmopolitan places, and you'd better set your expections for that. In addition, this *is* the midwest: there is a degree of isolation that is natural when you Read More

minneapolis cold and frigid yah you betcha - 3/27/2006
I have lived in minnesota for ten years now and I find the people in and around minneapolis the coldest and rudest people. yes there is alot of fakey artsy people but if your not born and raised here or are married to some one born and raised here you don't get in. minneapolis is very closed community and you can get very depressed by that soo. you have to make your own judgement and find what is important to you. I am living in a smaller town at present and I have to say it is nicer the people still say hello and wave at you at least my children made friends alot quicker in this area. as for the weather it is very unpredictable and yes it is cold cold cold, but it is clean and at present the town is very very safe not alot of drugs and no murders. I and my hubby intend to move from here eventually mainly cause I have some severe arthritis and it makes it very hard to withstand the cold weather. I cant say I wont miss the new friends I have made but I can always come to visit. as for Read More

Twin Cities are a good place to live - 4 months of - 3/27/2006
There's a lot to do in Minneapolis/St Paul, and the job market is good. But the weather is quite extreme and gets tiring. Winter isn't always frigid, but when it is bitter cold going outside is awful. And the snow and ice linger until late March. Spring is often cloudy, wet, and cool, then the storm season starts. The weather forecasters go nuts scaring people each time there's a thunderstorm. Best time of year is June-September, but expect lots of mosquitoes and either a drought or flood. It's rarely just 'normal' here - always one extreme or the Read More

Twin Cities in general... - 3/24/2006
I actualy grew up in CA then moved to WI, and I've been living in MN for 8 years now. I will tell you this about MN: everything is great EXCEPT for the obvious. It gets very, very cold here! Every winter comes and that's when I start wanting to move elsewhere. The spring and summer is very short and it is very rare that we will get a nice, sunny day comparable to CA's. Winter is cold and long, spring seems to start like in May and ends a week after, summers are very short and can be very humid.

Despite all this MN is beautiful because we have the lakes to be thankful for. I went back to visit CA and boy it is so dry there in the summer! They would kill (or man make) a lake like ours. MN is very lush and green in its short summers and we are not as dirty as all the other cities that I've seen. MN is very diverse. Unlike CA where you have to drive to LA to San Fran to anywhere else, you get it all here in the Twin Cities and its surrounding suburbs. They are Read More

Great Place to live - 3/22/2006
I'm born and raised in Minneapolis and love it here. I've been to many cities and find Minneapolis to have great culture, food, nightlife, and events! I'm from the suburb of Brooklyn Park which is just north of N. Minneapolis ( a place you want to stay away from due to crime and drugs)...They're starting to change the Brooklyn Park area to make it "newer" and "nicer" looking, by putting in higher cost housing..which really doesn't solve the crime, just moves it to another location. I now live near Uptown area which I love, yet the crime is prevelant with car break-ins and shootings all around. Crime is expected in big cities, yet I've never really felt unsafe here...again, unless you travel to North Minneapolis.

If all you're looking for is a great "cookie cutter" place to raise your family where there is no diversity, you can always travel to the rich suburbs like Minnetonka. You'll pay an arm and a leg for a home there, but there will be only white rich snobs to Read More

Gay Perspective - 3/20/2006
If your gay: Minneapolis is a nice clean city with cool hetereosexuals and lesibians. If your seeking more energy, racially mixed and different personalities among gay men than its the wrong city for you. Very narrow minded and men act like they are still living in a small town where their's not many people of color. Also another thing not a hot spot if your a chocolate lover. But hey! If your in a relationship and u 2 want to move to a new clean city than its the perfect place. Theirs many good benefits for domestic Read More

About Jerrill's Posting - 3/20/2006
Hmmm ... I have visited Minneapolis and am somewhat aware of things to look for in a large city as I have lived in New York, Los Angeles, and Washington D.C. I do believe that Jerril's posting about the crime and drugs in Minneapolis being the worst in the country is an attempt to slow the flow of people relocating to the area that may eventually have a negative impact on the quality of life there. If I lived in a nice place and wanted to be protective of it, I just might do the same  Read More
