Small City with wishful thinking - 1/4/2019
Lincoln is friendly, safe, affordable, clean and has no natural disasters. The local-ism is kinda creepy. They want to know all about you and where you come from but really wont truly befriend if you are an outsider. Strange obsession with identity crisis around Nebraska in general. Some talk about interest in going somewhere like Denver, Phoenix, Chicago, anywhere in California but will never leave their Lincoln Hamlet. Weird vicarious living attitude. I embrace the location for what it is ...mid-west vibe. Some of the best sunsets i have seen anywhere.  Read More

Meh, great if you like taxes, and scabby roads. - 10/19/2018
I've lived here for the better part of my life, 35 yrs or about. The city is in a bit of rock and a hard place overall. Lot of jobs, if you're willing to work. But a clear crony system with long standing nepotism. Overall it's pretty common to see a hugggge gap in labor wages, versus owner operator incomes. The city is just coming down from a manipulated and artificial housing cost boom, that benefited a very small group of wealthy folks. Unfortunately the every day folks picked up the tab with wildly bloated property valuations, and of course Lincoln's favorite 3 letter word, tax. Crime is overall fairly low, but we're seeing more blow-over from Omaha which is a smaller version of KC, a sh*thole. Violent crime is on the rise in Lincoln slightly, impart to a criminal element traveling from cities where the fruit isn't as ripe for the picking. Good news is that they mostly commit crime amongst their fellow have-nots.

Lincoln what its like. - 7/24/2016
If your considering moving here, it's kind of like a tale of two cities. Its a nice place to visit, its pretty clean and there are opportunities. I'm a transfer and have lived here for ten years. Most things are pretty affordable compared to most places, although taxes are a bit high. The schools are ok. People from here constantly complain about the weather but in my ten years I guess I've been lucky because its been ok really considering the northern latitude. There is a good park, and library system. The city is growing and housing is affordable compared to many places.
On the flip side, the locals are strange! Its kind of like children of the corn. If you move here from elsewhere you are never really accepted. In my experience the people are very racist and small minded, they are not open to change and not at all interested in ideas from another place. As noted by other people in the reviews its a very weird place. The restaurants truly suck. There really are no stop signs Read More

A review after 15 years of residency - 5/26/2016
I moved to Lincoln 15 years ago after having lived in several places throughout the country due to military service including Upstate NY, Asheville, NC, Orlando, FL, El Paso Texas, and St. Paul, MN. I must admit that Lincoln is a very "Odd" place. Filled with both good and bad like every place but if you have lived elsewhere it's kinda like crossing over into the twilight zone. The Good- The economy is quite strong. There is not much difficulty in finding employment in just about any professional or service field. Traffic isn't heavy just odd see below. Most places in town are accessible in 15 minutes. Th cost of living is quite affordable as well. Despite what you may think the weather is actually pretty moderate for the most part. Since 2001 the city has had maybe two real heavy snowstorms aside from that most snow accumulations are about an inch or so three or four times in the winter. The wind does get quite annoying at times but for the most part its really not bad most of the Read More

why all the haters - 7/19/2015
I don't know so many of teh people on here are complaining about Lincoln. I think it is biased. Just the fancy people who know how to use the interweb hate it here. Just cause we dont have fancy art and culture dont mean nothing. We have big red football and what more could you ask for except for maybe a fine ass cousin to screw.  Read More

**so, let's keep things in perspective. BUT I suspect most people who complain about ANY taxation at all are more your Libertarian ilk. THEY benefit from the rest of US who pay taxes (firefighters, public roads & the US Interstate, Read More

Lincoln, Nebraska - 8/16/2014
The economy here has always been good. Even during the 2008 crash, we didn't really feel it. I'm sure some people would disagree with me, but being in what USED to be "middle class", we've done quite well here. The only bad thing I could say is the property taxes here are quite Read More

Not a good place for newcomers needing excitement - 12/22/2012
The review dated from from 2009 from user Jeff pretty much hit the nail on the head with what I was going to say. I graduated from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln a year ago. I told my father that if I couldn't find a job outside of Nebraska, I would kill myself. Soon after, I moved to Seattle, landed a job, and haven't looked back since.

If you are a newcomer seeking a start in Lincoln, you better be extremely social and good at making friends. Because although people in Lincoln are polite, it can be extremely difficult to break into their circles and make friends. Most of the residents out of the university have family who's lived in Nebraska for generations. They already have their family and established friends. I've found that most people in Lincoln are not interested in meeting new people for friendship. You should also be white, as most people (white people) in Nebraska are not comfortable with associating with people who look or act differently.  Read More
