re: NED, moving to NE area - 1/10/2006
Hello Ned

The NE area is the safest in albq. However, when looking for a place to live,in that area, keep in mind that the NE area covers several square miles, and not every area in the NE is good. Furthermore, when moving here, be aware that New Mexico truly is like no other state in the Union, the standards are different across the Read More

Moving to ABQ - 1/8/2006
My family is considering relocating to ABQ from Florida. We would likely live in the NE part of town (North ABQ Acres or High Desert). Are crime and bad schools an issue in these Read More

Living in the Southwest 2 - 12/30/2005
Forgot one important benefit of Abq, NO BUGS! Additionally, whoever wrote that the Balloon Fiesta is overrated is crazy. I have friends and family from the Midwest calling months in advance to book my spare bedroom, daughter's bedroom and empty couches. In St. Louis at the Forest Park Balloon Event, we thought 10 balloons ascending at one time was cool, try 750 at the Read More

Living in the Southwest - 12/29/2005
I moved to Abq 3 years ago from the Midwest and have been very happy with the move. Sure I miss the green of the Midwest but I don't miss wind chill and heat index. The public schools are not very good because of the size of APS, but there are talks of breaking this up into east side and west side which would help. The private schools are very good and much less expensive than private schools in other cities. Regarding crime, just don't live in the South Valley or the Southwest side. The Northeast side is very nice and the Northwest side is great, full of professional couples with young children and better housing prices. Regarding housing, it is more expensive than the Midwest but much more reasonable than Western cities around us, Denver, Co Springs, Las Vegas or Phoenix. Beautiful weather, wonderful landscapes and lots of outdoor activities. I don't regret the move one Read More

If you are concerned about crime in Albuquerque you might consider adjacent Rio Rancho. Lower taxes, more bang for your housing buck, and much lower crime Read More

New Mexico ranks #1 in crime - 12/15/2005
I have been living in New Mexico for 15 years. It is truly a very unsafe place. From small towns to large cities, the gang and drug problem is out of control. New Mexico ranks # 1 in crime, according to the Morgan Quitno Press team. I have lived in many large cities across the West, and Albuquerque defenetly feels and looks the unsafest/dirtiest. I am relocating. If you are planning on moving here, please make sure to check vital statistics from various sources, and please stay away from information found in travel brochures. Good luck in your Read More

In Albuquerque,I am always living in fear... - 12/13/2005
I am originaly from France. I am attending The University of New Mexico. Albuquerque is extremely unsafe. Anywhere! There is an enourmous amount of crime, litering, drunk driving and vandalism. There is not one day that goes by without at least one of those things affecting someone I know. I avoid going out, Read More

Grew up in Albuquerque - 12/6/2005
It wasn't bad actually. I lived there my whole life and did not have that many problems with crime. I've had my car broken into once but that was about it. The people aren't very friendly either.

On the plus side, the schools aren't that bad. Well a lot of them are but there are a few good ones. The weather is awesome as it's usually sunny all year round. If you like the outdoors there are plenty of things to do.

The Balloon Fiesta is overrated. Don't waste your time Read More

crime and horrible education - 12/4/2005
i have live in albuquerque for 15 years and in that time crime has gone up and the education has gone down. i have three children in the public shool system. they r not challenged enough and not taught properly. because of low wages for any job here the people that work in the school system do not do their jobs to the best of their ability. if you r not slightly wealthy this i s not the place for u. sure the weather is great and the landscape is beautiful, but all that means nothing when your wages are too low to support and feed your family, your children do not get the education they need, and dont feel safe because of the high crime of gang and drug activity here. Read More

Lots of Crime in ABQ - 11/14/2005
I've lived in Albuquerque for 12 years and can attest to the high crime rate. Lots of gang activity, robbery and meth labs in almost every neighborhood (except the most expensive ones in the far northeast heights). Schools are generally considered rough and underachieving. Multiple murders covered on the local TV news every day. Sad but Read More
