Buggy? - 6/9/2016
Background: I'm a medical professional considering moving to NC. Was in the Albermarle Sound area last week and on walking down a dock, noticed large swarms of tiny flying insects (no see'ems?). I've heard they are common to the area. It was also really hot/humid.

Back home in NY now and found interesting homes in Beaufort, on the water. Anyone know what the fauna is like there? I'd like to gather information before driving down again.

Beaufort Winter Reverie - 2/3/2009
The other poster is correct, outdoor activities slow down in the winter, but the social scene stays warm with house parties, pot lucks, concerts, bridge and Scrabble, book clubs and library book talks, and gatherings at restuarants and pubs. Think 'Cheers' where everyone knows your name.

Charming - 8/6/2005
Beaufort is a beautiful, charming small coastal town. The buildings and houses are very old but very well maintained, as the town has done an excellent job preserving its history. With a beautiful waterfront, you can have dinner, get ice cream, and take a stroll along the board walk while admiring the beautiful Carolina evening sky and sound scenery. The wide open ocean is a short boat ride out of Beaufort, or if you want sandy beaches, drive 5 minutes south to Atlantic Beach. If you want the ocean without the noise and wildness typical of popular beach destinations, Beaufort is a place to consider. Do be advised however that outside of its charm and seaside location, there's not a lot of other things to do, so particularly in the winter things can get pretty Read More
