Brevard and Trqnsylvania...Little Shop of Horrors - 5/23/2021
Pretty scenery...but very clickish. Out of towners are the only friendly people. Living in the county is absolutely horrible. Vandalism, poaching, trespassing are just a few of the things you will encounter. And Southern hospitality does NOT exist in this county. The town is o.k....if you are a college kid at Brevard College. The college offers a great music concert series. Restaurants are o.k. Other than the college and the scenic mountains...there is nothing else. Living in the county is at your own risk. The locals can be very mean. Tree vandalism, shooting of your pets, vandalism, house break ins...to name a few!

Paradise found (At least right now :-) ) - 1/31/2020
The reason I’m writing this review is because I was really surprised when I saw low scores on Brevard. We have had a place up in the mountains right outside of Brevard for 18+ years. About 2 1/2 years ago, my wife and I decided that we would quickly fix up our Mountainhome and sell it. In the process of fixing it up we fell in love with the area. It has been one of the best decisions that we have ever made. We enjoy just about everything about Brevard. It is centrally located, 45 minutes to Asheville, an hour to Greenville airport, and three hours and some change to Atlanta or Charlotte.
The small town character, breweries, independent film theater, restaurants, world class summer music productions, small college town, etc.

Brevard is cool - 9/6/2014
I love Brevard. I was raised there, moved away for college for about 15 years after that. I had the opportunity to live there again for about 2 years before my husband was transferred and I miss it so much. Brevard is a slower pace of living. You can walk down the main street and come across friend after friend. Locals don't like the tourism industry and the changes, but the the big employers of Dupont and Ecusta are gone and the tourists help keep the town going. Brevard is small and quaint. When they talk about how bad the traffic is, that's a joke - I live in Atlanta - I can talk about traffic. I lived on a mountain top with an amazing view and 12 minutes to downtown for my job - and that was during morning rush hour!!. No, jobs aren't in full supply, but there are only so jobs in a town that size anyway. I run across so many people in Atlanta who know and love Brevard. Not so little and cute - 10/11/2013
The days of small town comfort is gone .Brevard is a traffic nightmare, so many stoplights, one every block. The traffic pattern has been changed more times than the locals can count. We have a huge amount of Florida retires here, they bring money but usually spend it elsewhere.There are hardly any jobs in town, most have to either drive to somewhere else for work or have seasonal or domestic, or self employed. The downtown is nice looking but only has street parking, stores are touristy. We do have the forest, most enjoy the hiking, bike riding. Brevard's mild climate and mountain views have turned it into a summer home and tourist mecca. Housing prices have soared. Unfortunately, over the last 4 years, the 2 main industiral plants have closed leaving 1,000 locals out of jobs. The preview here says jobs are good, but it is a false statistic. Many of the locals are working 2 or 3 jobs to keep their homes and cars. Property values are now so high that the locals cannot afford land or a house if they didn't already own one. They are resentful and suspicious of the money-hungry developers and their clients. It's a sad situation.
The only redemption is that nearly 1/2 the county (Transylvania) is in National Forest, State Forest, or State Park.
Brevard city limits is only about 8,000, not the 16,000 listed. That is merely the number of people receiving mail out of the Brevard Post

Brevard is a great place to live. I just wish that it stayed small. It has gotten to big for my liking.
