Shelby's worth a look - 9/3/2006
Not likely you'll settle here out of chance, a job will likely bring you here. I have lived in the Shelby area for the past ten years and have seen an explosion of retail and dining establishments. No longer do you have to travel to Gastonia to purchase "essentials" or have a nice meal. Shelby is half way between Asheville and Charlotte. "Cultural events" are limited to a local county fair, but Asheville has the mountains and the Biltmore Estate which is only 45 min away. Shelby has suffered from high unemployment due to loss of textile and mfg. jobs. Schools are pretty good, but overcrowded. People are friendly and religious.
