NO SUN and constant rain! - 5/17/2017
Astoria is land of no sun and constant rain. I am a lover of dark days and rain or so I thought.
Let me tell you it's no joke about the weather here. We just broke a 96 year old record with 167 days STRAIGHT OF RAIN . and it didn't stop at 167 I believe it made it to 174 before we had a break of sun.
It's always cold I mean even when the ocean appears so beautiful and cozy the winds and cold make it hard to be enjoyable.
Not to mention a large amount of serious crime on the coast of Oregon. Lots of depressed drug addicts ( maybe it's the weather ) but also a huge amount of drinks too. Heroine is HUGE here.
Businesses struggle to stay open and the traffic is horrid.
Everything is closed Sunday , mondays and usually Tuesday's too. Most places close at 8pm. Most larger stores that you might need like your cell phone store if you have a problem or need to buy a quick USB Cord etc is in the next nearest town which is ober an hour away. Mostly everything Read More

A very nice town - 10/28/2011
I went there to visit during June of 2011. I can tell you that Astoria is a very nice town. Its very green with tall trees on hills and grass very green compare to where I live. In Texas is always brown. Oregon is probably the greenest state because Oregon get enough rain. Three or maybe more movies was film in Astoria, I have seen Short Circuit,Goonies, and Kindergarten Cop was film in Astoria and I don't know if any other movies were film in Astoria. I have seen three of those movies several times and when I visiting Astoria I remember the places that I have seen in those movies like the school in Kindergarten Cop and the downtown area, also the bridge going to washington. I thought its was really neat that I remember those places that I have seen in movies before. The weather was very nice when I was visiting. But its rains there a lot during winter and more rain than the valley of Oregon where Eugene is. I rather live in Medford or Eugene because of less rain but I will always Read More

Numbers Skewed by Vacation Homes - 1/31/2010
When looking at Cost of Living figures the high number attributed to the Astoria area includes several neighboring cities, Seaside, Cannon Beach, etc. These communities include large numbers of expensive vacation homes, and consequently the Cost of Living figure appears to be off...factor that in if you are considering the area. We feel it is a very affordable area with the exception of housing, and modest housing choices are quite available especially now in Read More
