Rob: I'm glad that you've had good experiences wit - 8/30/2006
Rob,
If you go back and read my original post from July you will see that:
1. I made it a point to say that my comments do not reflect ALL people in Pittsburgh (just most that I have experienced)
2. My original post was in response to another post about the level of racism in this city. There was a debate brewing over how Pittsburgh treats minorities.
I can only speak to what I have experienced. Yes, I have lived in several areas around Pittsburgh from the lowest income city neighborhoods to the highest income suburbs. And yes, I have experienced numerous other cities besides Pittsburgh in my life including DC, Chicago, Atlanta, Los Angeles, Austin and many others. I have to travel quite frequently for my job and have been from one end of the country to the other experiencing the people and the attitude of various cities. I'm not saying that to be arrogant. I just want to make it clear that my views of Pittsburgh are not made in a

Karen, you sound ignorant - 8/29/2006
Karen, I don't want to pretend to know you but based on your post you come across as completely ignorant. Have you ever lived anywhere outside your "white trash" neighborhood? I was born in Pittsburgh suburbs, moved and lived in Florida, Atlanta, Detroit, Cleveland and Chicago. I have traveled to almost every major US city. Pittsburgh is definitely not a "racist" city. In fact, I am offended that you would post this here as a blanket statement. I am not racist. I am not homophobic and neither are people in my family or circle of friends who live or have lived in Pittsburgh. I NEVER saw a white power sign in someone's yard. I never saw someone harassed in a store. I am not saying it never happens but you make it sound like it happens all the time in every establishment around town.
Grow up. Making blanket statements makes you sound very unintelligent and, shall I say, like "white trash."
Pittsburgh is a great and friendly city that has a problem

Feel the Need to Defend My Comments - 8/29/2006
I feel the need to defend my view of Pittsburgh (posted July 2) since I've been accused on this board of being among other things, a racist. I think it is important to point out that I am not a racist, just becuase I pointed out that some Pittsburgh residents ARE. And I think it's also important to point out that I am not speaking as a minority. I am a white female, with a very successful job as a marketing executive. My husband is also a successful executive. We also happen to live within a city neighborhood (as opposed to the suburbs) so I think we get to see, hands on, what the people in this city are REALLY like. I am saddened when I see and hear stories about my minority friends and co-workers being hassled, followed around in stores, and generally harassed becuase of the color of their skin or their sexual orientation. Is Pittsburgh full of white trash? Absolutely. Why do I feel like I have the right to say that? Well, first of all I was adopted and raised by a white trash

Look in the mirror sometime. - 8/15/2006
So I guess the fact that Pittsburgh was rated as one of the best places for homosexuals in America means nothing huh? To those of who are quick to call others racist, I suggest you take a long hard look in the mirror sometime because chances are that you're just as racist as they are. So go ahead and move to a more "progressive" city like Kansas City or Tucson. In 5 years you'll be complaining about the exact same things because the problem isn't the city, the problem is your own racist

PITTSBURGH EXPOSED - 8/11/2006
Every negative posting about Pittsburgh is the truth. The over abundance of blue collar and idiotic white collar sales jobs, the cocky ass nobodies who think they're somebodies, Catholic excessiveness, junk food and smokers, immense white trash, know nothing sass mouth instigating blacks, overfascination with "The Stillers" (ugly accents to boot), drivers that pace other drivers rather than use the passing lane for its intended purpose, the list goes

FOR ALL - 8/8/2006
Everyone makes typing errors but this does not excuse the fact that PGH is a racist "good-ole-boys" town. People who are "perfect" show how ignorant they really are!
I am speaking from experience (lived and raised in PGH-I wasn't raised poor in the "ghetto" but I am not ignorant to the "ghetto struggles". I have witnessed cops beat blacks (even whites because of association with blacks) for no reason , I'm married to a wonderful man that the police framed because the "good ole boys" are jealous he is "something to fear", whites preventing minorities (especially blacks)from obtaining higher pay positions, interfere with hiring either qualified or over-qualified minorities. There is a fear of minorities. It's clear as day.
The job market has no value. Pgh is ranked within the top 5 cities on forclosures. The property assesment of homes was a big "scam" to help bring money in the "bankrupt" city. They are putting elderly out on the streets. (not assumptions) PGH

I Love Pgh - 7/31/2006
Born and raised in Pittsburgh and now that I'm in my 40's I think Pgh is looking great. I know we aren't a perfect city, but in all of my travels I yet to find one.
Pgh is in easy driving distance (under 6 hours) to NYC, Washington DC, Cleveland, Niagra Falls, Philadelphia, Baltimore, Toronto, Atlantic City, Ocean City Md.,... And if driving isn't your thing, PIT blows most other airports away.
I will admit that the job market can be very difficult here depending on what you are looking for. I am in healthcare and am one of those very fortunate people that could land a good paying position in any market.

Crappy City - 7/28/2006
They are putting duplex apartments downtown but they aren't bringing jobs in and the jobs they do bring in they will go to a "Sally or Billy" while "Tamika" and "Leroy" take out the trash.
PiKKKsburgh is in 1930 times. Whites get the best jobs, homes education. Blacks get the leftovers. When I go to another city say New York and I see a white in a suit and tie I know he/she got their on the grind. When I see a white in Pikksburgh I say either someone helped him get in or the Glass Ceiling saved him.
When I am finished with my education I am leaving this glass jar and go where Black faces are in Businesses doing things and not just in the mailroom or taking out the garbage. I know why whites who come from other cities like it here, especially those who come from Atlanta, DC, Chicago and so on. They don't have to compete with blacks here because for some reason we are being held

I think it speaks for itself that Karen complains about racism while using racial epithets in her own posting. She took great pains to use the expression "white trash" more than once - guess who's the REAL racist? Don't let the door hit you on the way out!
