Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania is a bustling city located in the western part of the state. With a rich history and diverse culture, Pittsburgh attracts many residents from all over the country. In this particular place, there are a variety of neighborhoods and communities that offer unique experiences for those who call it home. To get a better understanding of what it's like to live in Pittsburgh, we will be summarizing several user reviews from BestPlaces.net. These reviews come from individuals who have first-hand experience living in the city and can provide valuable insights for those considering making Pittsburgh their home.

1. In their review, Susan R. describes Pittsburgh as "a hidden gem" with "tons of character." They go on to praise the city's affordable cost of living, saying "I can afford a nice house in a safe and quiet neighborhood without breaking the bank." Susan also mentions the abundance of outdoor activities and cultural events that make the city a great place to live.

2. James S. shares a similar sentiment, stating that Pittsburgh has "a unique charm that is hard to find in other cities." He also mentions the strong sense of community and friendly neighbors as major positives. However, James does note that traffic can be an issue, especially during rush hour.

3. According to John P., Pittsburgh is a "city of endless opportunities." He highlights the job market, education options, and entertainment as major draws for him and his family. John also appreciates the city's efforts in revitalizing its downtown area, making it a more vibrant and livable place.

4. In contrast, Emma L. expresses some disappointment with Pittsburgh, saying that it "lacks diversity and can feel very insular." She also mentions the weather, noting that winters can be long and harsh. However, Emma does acknowledge that the city has a "small-town feel" and is a good place to raise a family.

Overall, it seems that Pittsburgh offers a unique combination of affordability, community, and opportunities for its residents. While there may be some challenges, such as traffic and weather, many reviewers found the city to be a great place to live and would recommend it to others.

...by people who can't even spell basic words? Please consider the source of some of these insulting posts. If they spell like and have the grammar of a 6 year-old, they are probably not a great authority on much and rant to hear themselves talk more than to offer any information of real value. Kind of like the guy who cracks on Pittsburgh's education system who can't even spell the simplest of words (and is quick to point out that he isn't from here! Read More

Dying city - 7/12/2006
Pittsburgh is dying. May it rest in peace. If they could ever get past their fascination with football players and slot machines there might be hope, but not as long as the corrupt good-ole-boy network governs Read More

Decent places to live in Pittsburgh - 7/12/2006
Think of Pittsburgh divided into quadrants. The "North Hills" is an up and coming area with great school districts (Hampton Twp. medium size/blue ribbon school). South Hills is more populated and has better rail/bus transportation into the city. East Suburbs are okay. And the western suburbs are near the airport and is a growing area.

The eastern and southern and western suburbs probably have more affordable appartment living than the northern suburbs with the exception of the Cranberry area. In the next several years multiple condos are expected to be developed in the "downtown" Pittsburgh area. That is going to be the "in" place to live, I think.

If you like a college atmosphere, try Oakland/Squirrel Hill.

Pittsburghers are friendly and of course, we bleed "black and gold". Go Read More

Pittsburgh is nice, but needs work and I will move - 7/11/2006
Don't listen to that Karen's post about Pittsburgh being white trash, uneducated, and bla bla bla. Most people on this site come on here only to complain about their town. If they liked it, they would be doing other things. I like how she said there is a lack of intelligent life. I guess she may speak for that though….That is very ignorant, rude, and just plain mean to say about people living in an area. I mean Jesus, just down right insulting. I moved to Denver and Yes I miss Pittsburgh. Pittsburgh is very friendly and nice place to live. Out here people act as if they are snobby and better then everybody else. Denver is also a transplant town so people don't want anything to do with anybody else. If you don’t fit into a five person clique then you’re screwed. Completely different from Pittsburgh where everybody knows their neighbors and are friendly towards each other. Other things Pittsburgh is great for is historic cool neighborhoods, and amazing architecture. Towns Read More

There is no reason to come here!!! - 7/6/2006
I have been living in Pittsburgh almost all of my life...and I am in the process of moving to anywhere but here USA. This is by far not the place for cultural diversity nor is it a place for tolerance. There is only one thing that drives people here...football...that's it! If you are not a Steelers fan than you are nothing, period! The positives of this city is the healthcare, cost of living, transportation, and my immediate family. Those are the main reasons why I am still here. However, from what I read from other post about other cities...Pittsburgh is no different...racism is everywhere, crime is everywhere, and taxes are too high. BUT...like I say to those who are not from here and complains constantly about this city...THERE IS NOTHING HOLDING YOU BACK SO LEAVE. Love it or hate it...Pittsburgh is what you make of Read More

I cannot wait to leave this ignorant, rude and rac - 7/2/2006
Let me first say that this statement does not apply to ALL people living in Pittsburgh. Some are perfectly pleasant, friendly and intelligent people. Unfortunately, these people are not in the majority. Having lived in Pittsburgh for 29 years, and having visited many cities throughout the US, I have to say that Pittsburgh overall is the most intolerant, rude, uneducated and racist cities I have experienced. It is sad to see such racism towards anyone but whites. I have actually seen a white power flag hanging from a Pittsburgh home in the South Hills. They are also intollerant to anyone with an alternative lifestyle or anything outside of "normal." In addition, the people are close minded to anything outside of the rhelm of the Catholic Church (the Catholic church represents a HUGE chunk of the population.) There is a reason Pittsburgh was rated the worst city to live in if you are single. The population is overwhelmingly old (ie-65+) The majority of the people living in Pittsburgh Read More

As good a nightlife as you will ever need - 6/26/2006

I have a beleif that you can have as good a time in Pittsburgh as you can in just about any other city or town unless of course you are like many people who do not want to tolerate cold weather. The time I had at Station Square during Superbowl 40 and the afterparty was in about my top 5 party times ever and that list includes 5 trips to the sunshine state for springbreak. I will not delve into the tremendous Pro-Sports scene however( aside from the lowly pirates, although the stadium is world class even though the product is minor league)b/c it speaks for itself.
I Moved here about 2 years ago after attending college in South Carolina, although I grew up in PA. I think the bar scene here in Pittsburgh is great. Very cheap to drink when compared to many other middle sized cities and certainly cheaper than the largest cities. I estimate that for every 5 you spend here at a bar you would be throwing away a 20 in Chicago or elsewhere(I know, the per capita income is Read More

I have seen some strange comments! Here is MY opin - 6/15/2006
I will start this off by saying that I am NOT orginally from Pittsburgh,Pa.I am from Huntington,Wv which is 5+ hours away from Pittsburgh to the south. I have been to OVER 40 states in the United States. And stayed for GOOD periods of time in MANY major Cities. I would like to say that since I AM from Huntington,Wv I have been mocked and messed with by the locals here in Pittsburgh. It seems that they have forgotten that they TOO are in the same mountain range as the rednecks that they tend to make fun of. And in ALL honesty the city that I am from has a MUCH higher education rate. Pittsburgh isint THE worst city in america. But it ISINT the best either by any means. There are some nice scenic views of the city from the south and west end lookouts. SOME people that you talk with on the streets are nice and talkative. BUT, As a WHOLE the residents of this area are NOT as friendly and talkative as people seem to think. MOST of the areas of the city are NOT very pleasant looking. In the Read More

RELOCATING? I CAN GET YOU GREAT INFO.! - 6/11/2006
I work in emergency services in Pittsburgh, so I know the City inside and out, and can get anyone looking to relocate statistics on any of our neighborhoods if you need.

As for some common questions: We have no earthquakes, hurricanes, tornadoes or major pollution here. The schools depend on your neighborhood, but most are good and the colleges and hospitals here are out of this world - you will be hard-pressed to find better medical care anywhere. Pittsburgh is also home to one of the WORLD's premier children's hospitals; kids and adults from royal families in other countries travel here for medical treatment.

The crime rate is very good, especially for an area this size - the Pittsburgh Metro area has a residential population of 2.7 million people. I have found that the people here are some of the friendliest around, as well. We also have a new mayor who really seems to be interested in the welfare of the City, which is a huge benefit.
