High taxes, tolls, utilities but close to NYC. Not a good place to retire unless well to do & you have a house on the Jersey shore. Then again, that's if your house survived Read More

North Myrtle Beach/Little River/Myrtle Beach - 3/13/2012
Definitely a tourist area. Not a good place to raise kids! Schools are terrible. Decent amount of crime, nothing too extreme. High accident rate. Dear god do NOT drive on 501. Tons of churches, hotels, beach shops, elder-friendly communities, a few parks and all types of cultural restaurants. (Nothing spectacular.) College/Vacation-friendly area.
In other words, it's more fun to visit than it is to live.
A bit expensive to live. Not recommended for college students or beginning parents. Tons of traffic. Slow... slow traffic. Mall takes about 20 mins (for the crappy mall that's losing business) or about 45 mins (for Coastal Grand. It's decent overall) Nothing big supported such as Apple stores and some high-end businesses.
People that live here are from all different areas and are usually not very friendly. It's common for neighbors to own a beach house or vacation house instead of calling it Read More

I have visited this area and it is very nice. I am thinking of longer stays.

Does anyone know what the water source is for the area? Read More

Low Pay - 12/29/2009
I moved to the NMB area 3 yrs ago and I've got to tell you I wish I hadn't. The pay here is so low it's not even funny. I am a college educated person with many years of experience in my feild, but in this town that doesn't seem to matter whatsoever. Employers here are just plain Cheap. The cost of living is suppossed to be much lower in the south. I haven't seen it. My monthly expences are higher here that they were right outside of DC. The pay in DC was twice what you'll make here so how anyone can say the cost of living is low here is beyond me. You can get a house for alot less than in the DC area but The pay is just way too low. I'm heading out Read More
