Excellent School with AMAZING faculty - 1/26/2017
I have never been to a school where the teachers were more committed to helping students be the most successful they could be. The students here are held to high expectations and there are many things in place such as Living Tree and parent portal to keep parents involved. The principal, Anika Horgan, is clearly dedicated to holding students accountable which shows by the outstanding scores, 1st middle school in the district, that the students/school received in 2015-2016. The atmosphere is bright and the school is located on a beautiful federally preserved wetland. Read More

Update the records! - 1/26/2017
de Zavala is a WONDERFUL middle school! The teachers and staff genuinely care about the students. AVID has a strong presence on campus, and the AP Spanish as well as the GT programs are outstanding. Parent volunteers are on campus on an almost daily basis, and community members are frequently visiting the campus to see what new and innovating things are happening! You will never find a more welcoming staff. To top that off, they are the only middle school in Irving to earn 5 distinctions. I don't think you will find a better middle school to send your kids to. Read More

The past is the past - 6/17/2016
I've lived here for about 15 years. I've seen it go downhill and come back up, just like when businesses get new managers. But Irving is gone. Just as most older parts of cities get taken over by crime as people move out to escape it. They lie about the crime rate; cops didn't even file a report. The so called culture/recreation is a crappy parade once in awhile attended mostly by illegals and foreigners that do not speak English. It's a dumping ground for illegals, terrorists and people that disrespect out culture. It's a filthy place, trash blowing everywhere, but they don't even issue trash cans. And, if you want to recycle you must use blue trash bags which most near by retailers do not stock. The one good thing about it is you can get to almost every major highway in the blink of an eye. All in all it's a special, corrupt, filthy ghetto, just like all of Dallas County. The "ones in charge" used to care, now, obviously they do not. I doubt if they will publish this, but someone Read More

Life in Irving - 8/29/2013
My family's lived here since the 70's. I've since then grown up here. Irving is good for anyone looking for that suburb life style. The Cowboys have sadly moved out and, being near DFW airport, it's open to a lot of new people passing thru or moving in. A new strip club welcomes you as you come in thru the airport, they opened a year late due to fighting the majority of residence opposed to the idea and feel it does not reflect the towns people accurately. Strip club owner i more proud of his victory do doubt. A lot of Hispanic people have moved in (enough to note population growth in the early 90's.) My grandparents call south Irving "little mexico", and I think they all came from grand prairie, the next city south. Lots of family want to move out feeling it is not the same town they moved too, due to other developments. New muslin moscs have been built thru out the city. lots of Katrina victims are still noticeably here. Very crowded. Now, the next city west, is Euless. Euless Read More
