I grew up in Seattle and I am not white so I am colored by the experience of growing up in the NW as a non white person. Just like most of the USA the high population areas tend to be diverse and liberal..the rest of the state will not be. I moved here from
a very diverse area of Seattle about 5 years ago- since I am not white-anywhere I go in Washington state outside of a metro area I’m probably going to be one of a few persons of color. Bonney lake is no different but has changed a lot in just the few years I’ve been here. One thing that made this area stand out is you have folks in trailers and $million houses all in the same 15 mile radius sometimes on the same block. There is another reviewer who told the truth about the “conservative” nature of this area and when a certain person was in office it became noticeable that some folks were driven nuts and showed their true nature- however that obviously happened in towns all over the US. Toxic Wasteland With A Beautiful View - 7/16/2021
We moved to Bonney Lake from a city further north 4 years ago, due to rising costs. Bonney Lake has always been one of those places where, unless you know someone there or have business at a specific place there, you don't just drive through because it's somewhat out of the way from everyrhing else, and feels like it's in its own little universe. When we first moved here, we were completely charmed by the views of Mt. Rainier, the relatively small population, bigger acreage per home, and the rustic feel of the place. It almost felt like you were moving to a more civilized version of Little House on the Prairie. This charm was quickly replaced by discomfort and dread, however. What the mountain views and lower population estimates don't tell you, is that Bonney Lake is actually a cesspool of racists, bigots, and the fringe groups of political right-leaning folks who are obsessed with owning and bragging about their guns. Having moved from the Vancouver, WA area I have to say that the Sumner school district is in another league. Our children are flourishing when their previous school district all but wrote them off. We are enjoying the Bonney Lake area. Law enforcement is effective (the bad guys get caught - even if they are just passing through) and the shopping is excellent for the size
