Lakewood City is moving in a positive direction - 1/21/2018
Historically, Lakewood has had a bad reputation for being a crime ridden city, but since its incorporation in 1996 it has seen a transformation. Many of its roads have been resurfaced or repaired. The city is now attracting many middle-income families and new businesses. There is also a wealth of diversity which adds to the culturally variability of the city. The city also hired its own police force which has had a big impact in reducing crime. Since the City's incorporation in 1996, as well as the Police Department's formation in 2004, the overall crime rate in the Lakewood community has been cut in half. The nearest community is University Place which has a better reputation and better schools. But, I truly believe the City of Lakewood is moving in the right direction toward meeting its residents’ Read More

Stay far away. - 1/10/2018
Lakewood is the worst city in the state. With a murder rate that has grown upwards of 20 people a year, to the home invasions that happen every day in the city, don’t move here. There’s a huge pedophile problem with the city and being a person who has grown up here I can tell you from the underground drug cartel to the junkies that roam the unlit streets at night you’re better off just passing this place. There’s a big shooting problem here. Bodies are being found in car trunks and in trash bins it’s gotten really bad the past few years. The strip clubs are nice Read More

Lakewood in my eys - 10/17/2009
Lakewood, lakewood, LakeHood! I have lived here my entire life, and it has some of the worst and best neighborhoods in the state. From the gang/drug/crime areas of chocolate city, lakeview, tillicum, etc. to the rich/quiet/safe neighborhoods of oakbrook, gravelly lake, etc. but sadly i have happened to lived in the bad parts, so my personal experiance of the city is this: It was poor and full of crime, cheap motels, n strip clubs, b4 it was incorporated in 96, now its still full or crime, cheap motels, strip cluss, but they just make u pay more to live here!for a "suburb"...pretty bad. average murders per year are 10, tacoma 17, which is bad since tacoma is an urban city n lakewood about 1/4 the population aka lakewood #1 murder rate city in pierce county.Compton, ca averages 10 murders a year as well, haha. but again there are very quiet, nice parts as well, so ppl that grew up in those parts might have a very different perspective than Read More

Cost of living is higher in a low income area? - 5/9/2008
I have lived in lakewood for 12 years only 2 & a half in Lakecity, the rest in woodbrook. It sickens me that the cost of living is higher in a low income area, no wonder its so hard to survive here. Lakewood was bad before it became a city but now its worse, now they take more money too. The governmental body is worse than the poverty Read More

Crime - 6/26/2006
Have lived in a mobile home park here for 5 years. 3 or 4 times a week lowlifes come thru to see what they can steal. We have drug deals going down in several mobiles and the cops can't do anything about it as they don't see it happening. They just ask us for license plate numbers to keep track of the bad guys that way.
For 15 years the city of Lakewood was on the show COPS always catching somebody doing something wrong. A few months ago the local tv station did an on camera interview with a Lakewood City Council member stating that COPS was not welcome to film here anymore as it gave the city a bad name. While talking on camera, a cop car goes screaming back with lights and siren going.
