Let me first say that this statement does not apply to ALL people living in Pittsburgh. Some are perfectly pleasant, friendly and intelligent people. Unfortunately, these people are not in the majority. Having lived in Pittsburgh for 29 years, and having visited many cities throughout the US, I have to say that Pittsburgh overall is the most intolerant, rude, uneducated and racist cities I have experienced. It is sad to see such racism towards anyone but whites. I have actually seen a white power flag hanging from a Pittsburgh home in the South Hills. They are also intollerant to anyone with an alternative lifestyle or anything outside of "normal." In addition, the people are close minded to anything outside of the rhelm of the Catholic Church (the Catholic church represents a HUGE chunk of the population.) There is a reason Pittsburgh was rated the worst city to live in if you are single. The population is overwhelmingly old (ie-65+) The majority of the people living in Pittsburgh are blue collar, uneducated, white trash. Drivers are aggressive and impulsive. I have been scared by road rage drivers too many times to count. People are stressed, overworked, unhappy and either making minimum wage or are out of work. Very few people smile on the streets or act friendly to each other. The people who say it is friendly and wonderful in Pittsbugh are living in the richest of suberbs and have no idea what it is like to live in the city of Pittsburgh. If you want to know what it's really like in Pittsburgh (not in a suberb 30-40 minutes from Pittsburgh)I will tell you: it is just like every stereotype you've heard: ignorant, white trash, horrible accents and dirty city. Pittsburgh is a city trapped in the mentality of a decade past. There is an overall lack of intelligent life. I am moving out of Pittsburgh at the end of the year and I cannot wait.
